This server, which cost less than $200, surprised me with its performance. I'm using it as a "home lab" while in college, and it can run a lot of VMs without any problems; I'm running ESXi with Windows Server, Ubuntu, Redhat, and a bunch of other operating systems. I can quickly set up testing and practice machines, as well as networks, all on this one machine; it's a lot of fun, and I'm thinking about getting another one because they're such a good deal.
It arrived ahead of schedule and in excellent condition. The server works flawlessly because all of the components listed were installed. I was able to install Windows Server 2019 via the iLO3 port and virtual media because it refused to boot from the USB drive; however, older operating systems supported by this model booted fine from USB. I really like this server and expected it to be much louder than it is at idle speeds.
It worked perfectly as soon as I turned it on, no issues, drives worked, full cpu boost, etc. br>very quiet when not in use, which is a big plus for me, windows 10 will not work unless you use a virtual machine in a server os, just a heads up, not all servers support normal home system software, has high pressure fans, no dust, raid 0, has a lot of ethernet connectors, it's all good, it's much faster than.
This was purchased to replace another HP DL360 G7 that had become obsolete. This one had more drive slots and memory than mine, and it arrived in a well-protected sealed box. After installing my previously used RAID pair sas drives, the server booted up immediately. Everything is up and running, and I believe this is an excellent value for a small home server, such as PLEX, a small NAS or NVR, or even Vmware. I'm using it as a network video recorder (NVR) with hyper-V. V for other virtual machines, so I'm happy with this.
With 72GB of RAM and 2x 2x 2x 2x 2x 2x 2x 2x 2x 2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2 X5650 CPUs with a clock speed of 66 GHz. I'm running Windows 10 on it right now until I figure out what server OS I want to install. (12 cores, total 24 threads) So far, Windows 10 has performed admirably. Worked right out of the box, and was packaged properly to avoid shipping damage.
Love it! The packaging is fantastic. The server is in excellent condition, is clean, and is fully functional. The ECC ram alone would be worth more than the price of this server.
The vents were clogged and the room was filthy. I'll leave it up to you to decide. Look at the images below. Only one thing comes to mind: buyer beware! It appears that they took it off a shelf, boxed it, and shipped it.
The server arrived on time, but three DIMMs were reported as having failed on delivery by the server. For the past month, reinstalling DIMM has fixed the problem and allowed the server to run normally. It's great for setting up a home lab and learning new things.
