Questions & Answers

Is there any information about recycling included with the replacement battery?

There are no recycling instructions included, and Home Depot will not accept these batteries at their recycling centers, despite what Call2Recycle claims. I eventually took the batteries to a battery shop, which gladly accepted them as a favor. As of May 2021, this is happening in California.

Is this the APC xs 1500 unit's battery?

The RBC124 battery pack appears to work with the majority of XS 1500 units, if not all, but it is not always "plug-and-play." and-play. For ease of installation and compatibility, the pack I received is designed for newer XS 1500 units. It will also work in the older (light grey case) Back-to-School Back-to-School Back-to-School Back-to-School Back-to I have a UPS XS 1500 that I own. The new battery pack's connection socket is different from the older XS 1500, so it's not a PLUG AND PLAY situation. Because it has the proper connector to plug into your old XS 1500 unit, you must remove the mounting bracket that comes with this new RBC (Replacement Battery Pack)124) and replace it with the old mounting bracket that came with your old XS 1500 unit. The replacement process has been made extremely confusing by APC, especially for those of us who have older XS 1500 Back-up Drives. UPS because they reused model numbers and published contradictory information, despite the fact that the new and old units have the same model numbers but different mounting brackets and wiring harness/connector.

What makes rbc123 and rbc124 different? I have a br1500g, so which would be a better option?

The difference is in the amount of storage space available - The RBC123 has two 7Ah batteries and the RBC124 has two 9Ah batteries. Physically, they can be swapped out. Both will work in a UPS designed for one or the other. The units with the RBC124 specification may have a slightly more robust charging capability, so in the smaller 1000 VA UPS units, using the larger battery will likely result in slightly longer charge times. With a typical load (a desktop PC with a 23" LCD monitor and standard peripherals), the difference in runtime will be negligible - With the RBC124, you'll have a few more minutes before your computer shuts down.

For the apc xs1000, is there a battery?

Yes. Check the bottom of the unit for the model number, then use the APC website's tool to find the correct battery, which will be the 123. Externally, the 124 is identical to the 124, with the exception that it has a larger capacity. They'll both work in the same units; the 124 will just give you more time.

My UPS said the battery in my BR1500G was bad (an "X" on the battery icon), so I bought a new APCRBC124
5/5

This review is quite lengthy. I've gone over everything again. Based on what I've learned, I've written it. If you're having the same issue as me, I hope this helps. br>br>This battery performs admirably; five stars for the battery, but not so much for APC customer service (see below). br>br>I bought it to replace the one that came with my BR1500G UPS. In January of 2014, this UPS and its original battery were put into service. According to the test data sheet that came with it, the UPS was tested on September 9, 2013, indicating that it was manufactured in 2013. br>br>I have six UPS systems because we used to have a lot of brief power outages (not as many now, thanks to Florida Power and Light's significant improvements, but we still have one or two brief outages every few months). One is in our "rack room," where I keep our Synology server, cable modem, router, ethernet switches, phone system, and Sonos Connect equipment, and the other is at the main Dish Network DVR, as well as our four iMac/PCs throughout the house. br>br>I usually replace UPS batteries every three years, but I failed to notice this one. As a result, the battery finally died after four years. It failed in the following ways: br>br> One day, the rack room was completely devoid of life. The UPS service had been interrupted. I re-started it, and it turned on, but the battery icon was obscured by an "X. " br>br>As a result, I placed an order for a new battery and installed it. It's very simple; all you have to do is slide your fingers in. However, after two days of charging, the UPS only indicated a 10 minute run time, which I know is incorrect given the 210 watt load. br>br>So, suspecting that the battery was faulty, I contacted APC customer service via chat. They informed me that my UPS was 5 years old and had reached the end of its life after two chats. br>br>I was about to order a new UPS when I dug down and read many of these reviews. One person suggested that after replacing the battery, you should run the self-test as well as the Power Chute software to reset the "battery replacement date. " I've never tried the Power Chute software before, but after using it, I think it's worth a try. br>br>I did this, and now the UPS shows 27 minutes of run time, which I believe is reasonable for this UPS with a load of 210 watts based on my previous experience. br>br>Unfortunately, there is no documentation stating that this should be done. It's not in the UPS's original paperwork, and it's not in the battery's replacement paperwork. In addition, APC customer service did not advise me to do so. br>br>Below are the transcripts of two chat sessions I had with APC support. While I was frustrated that the first person I spoke with didn't seem to understand that I was doing a hot swap replacement and asked me to perform a procedure that wasn't consistent with a hot swap, the real frustration came later when I realized I needed to update the battery replacement date in the Power Chute software. br>br>Devi (4/25/2018, 5:45 p. m. ) 52 PM): Hello Eric, my name is Devi and I'd like to thank you for contacting APC by Schneider Electric. I'd like to see if I can assist you in any way. br>br>Me (4/25/2018, 5:45 p. m. ) 19 PM): My UPS said the battery in my BR1500G was bad (an "X" on the battery icon), so I bought a new APCRBC124. It was hot swapped because some servers rely on it for protection. The X is still there after the replacement. It was purchased from Amazon (which ships from and sells to Australia), but it came with Australian warranty information! Is there anything I can do to clear the X from the battery icon on the UPS? You can't seem to figure out how to do it? I don't want to damage my equipment by causing a power outage, so I have to be cautious. br>br>Devi (4/25/2018, 5:45 p. m. ) 38 PM): Your concern is well-founded. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this has caused. Due to safety concerns, the unit will not be fully charged during shipment; therefore, I would recommend charging the battery for 16 hours while the unit is turned off. br>br>Devi (4/25/2018, 5:45 p. m. ) 51 PM): As soon as the battery is completely charged. I recommend that you conduct a self-test. br>br>Me (4/25/2018, 5:45 p. m. ) 15 PM): I can't do what you're asking because it's a hot swap. br>br>Devi (4/25/2018, 5:45 p. m. ) 47 PM): Yes, it's possible to swap it out while it's still hot. br>br>Devi (4/25/2018, 5:45 p. m. ) 00 PM): Due to safety concerns, the unit will not be fully charged during shipment. br>br>Devi (4/25/2018, 5:45 p. m. ) 21 PM): Some batteries require a full charge before they can be used. br>br>Me (4/25/2018, 5:45 p. m. ) 16 PM): I'm afraid you don't get what I'm saying. I believe it would have made more sense if Devi had said that in my case, it would be best to wait a day and let the battery charge while the loads were connected. However, whether the UPS is connected to a load or not, the battery will charge at the same rate, because this is how a power outage works: When the power goes out, the UPS discharges the battery. When the power comes back on, the UPS charges the battery while it is still running. br>br>So, after two days of charging, I ran the self-test, and the "X" over the battery icon vanished. So at least Devi was correct!

However, after running the self test, the UPS shows that it only has a 10 minute run time, and this is with only a 21 br>br>According to APC (see second chat session below), my UPS is nearing the end of its life. I bought the UPS in January 2014, so I got more than 4 years on the original battery, which is pretty good. This UPS, on the other hand, is in perfect working order. As previously stated, all I had to do was reset the battery replacement date in the Power Chute software, and the UPS would re-calibrate for the new battery. br>br>For those who are interested, here is my second chat: br>br>Monica (4/27/2018, 10:45 a. m. ) 15 AM): Hello Eric, my name is Monica and I'd like to thank you for contacting APC by Schneider Electric. It arrived with warranty information from Australia for some reason. On Wednesday, I connected it to my UPS. It's been two days since it was charged at UPS. The load on the UPS is 24%, and the load on the UPS is 210 watts. The battery life is only 10 minutes, according to the UPS. The battery icon indicates that the battery is fully charged. I've completed the self-test and have a second UPS, a BR1000G, which I purchased in November. It has a 19 minute run time and its load is 240 watts, 40%. I did some work for my APC Back-up Computer
5/5

XS 1500 UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply). This battery pack is an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) replacement that worked for my APC Back-up. XS 1500 UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply). br>br>Finding the correct battery was difficult because APC appears to have used the same model number for several UPS units that are very similar. Many aftermarket batteries appear to work, but many of them require disassembling and reassembling the bracket that came with the original battery. use it. This OEM battery is ready to use right out of the box. The bracket is already attached, so all you have to do is remove the old battery and replace it. It's impossible to make a mistake because the battery can only go in one way (notches are cut to prevent it from going in backwards). br>br>The capacity of aftermarket parts appears to vary as well, with some going as low as 7aH. This APC version is a 9aH pack that will extend your run time by a few minutes. than the 7aH packs in terms of time. br>br>I've had this UPS for a long time, and this is the first time it's needed a battery replacement. Other reviews claim that to get the pack to work, you must first install APC software. I've never used the software and didn't put it on my computer. The new battery functions perfectly, and the "bad battery" icon on the UPS LCD display disappeared after I replaced it. There is no need for additional software.

APCRBC124 is a battery replacement for the Backups Pro BR1500G
4/5

On 11-11, I ordered a replacement APCRBC124 battery from Amazon. 2017 (as I had done when the unit indicated it needed to be replaced in 2014, and the replacement worked perfectly). This replacement failed the self-test right away, so I'll give it a few hours to 'charge' before testing it again, just in case that's the problem. The unit indicates full charge, but I'm hoping it just needs a little top-off time; if not, I'll have to look into another brand before deciding whether to replace the unit entirely or go through the hassle of trying to find a replacement battery that works. After a retest, I'll post an update. br>br>********Update- 12- br>Installed 12 in 2017br> 2017 and, as previously stated, failed the self-test during installation. I let it charge for a couple of days before running another self-test on 12-volt batteries. 2017 This time it was different. I'm hoping it lasts as long as they say it will, because the first battery in the unit when I bought it only lasted two years. I bought my first replacement battery in 2014, and it passed the self-test right away. That one did, in fact, last the full three years. I'm a little concerned that the third and most recent replacement, 2017, will not last the three years as advertised- We'll have to wait and see. For the time being, I'll give it a couple of stars because it passed the self-test on the second try after some charging time. br>br>********Update- Since then, the same battery has performed admirably. Since the 12-month mark, there have been no further reports of failure. 2017 I don't think it'll be long before I have to replace it again, though, because 3- These appear to have a lifespan of 5 years.
