Questions & Answers

What's the difference between this and the more expensive SMT1500C model?

The SMT1500C has outlets that can be controlled remotely, whereas the SMC1500C does not.

What do you mean by volts * amps? So, how much power do you need?

You're on the verge of accomplishing your goal. Watts are calculated by multiplying V by A and multiplying the result by the power factor. The phase shift between the RMS voltage signal and the current seen by the load is represented by the power factor, which compensates for REAL power vs. APPARENT power. The power factor will vary depending on the load, but you can expect it to be - 1 to 1. 1 is for mixed inductive/resistive loads, which are common with this type of UPS. Simply assume 1 if you want to be safe. 2 to de- In Watts, rate your capacity. By the way, if we're talking about DC power instead of AC power, watts equal VA exactly because the Power Factor is effectively 1.

Is it possible to use the network connection to have several computers monitor the ups and gracefully shut down when they reach a certain threshold? Only the usb appears to be used by powerchute?

Be aware that the UPS's network connection only allows it to connect to some sort of external APC service; it cannot be accessed via standard protocols like SNMP, and it does not have a web server. Because of the inherent security risks, I keep it disconnected from the network and use it to power my network switches and other devices. If you need SNMP capabilities, look for the SMT1500C with the management card, which costs nearly twice as much.

Can the smc 1000 power two routers, a 24-port switch, a watchguard security device, and a nvr work together?

The number of Poe cameras you're powering with your switch and/or nvr will determine this. Most good switches will show you how much power you're using right now, which should include the Poe for any cameras that are currently connected. If not, plan on 7 watts per stationary camera and 9 watts for moving cameras. 15 watts for cameras with autofocus/manual zoom and 15 watts for cameras without autofocus/manual zoom. 60 watts for ptz cameras (some ptz models require a special 60 watt poe power adapter or an 802.11ac connection). 3 watts, or 30 watts). Add all of the camera wattages together, plus at least 80w for the switch and 100w for the nvr itself, and you should be able to come up with a reasonable estimate.

Here's an unconventional but effective way to mitigate the problem of premature battery failure while also greatly extending the runtime of these generally reliable UPSs
4/5

br>br>I have about 15-years of experience in this field. 20 SMT APC APC APC APC APC APC APC APC Over the last decade, there have been xxxx different models of UPSs. We have a large number of SMT-equipped vehicles. There are 1500 models in total. Some of these units were purchased before APC was acquired by Schneider Electric, and others were purchased afterward, but overall, we are getting excellent, long-term results. All of our SMT-members put on a live show. UPSs, xxxx UPSs, xxxx UPSs, xxxx UPS br>br>The batteries are the only area where there is a problem. It's like buying a pig in a poke when it comes to replacement batteries. Many reviews criticize APC's branded replacement batteries for failing prematurely, while third-party knock-offs are praised for their reliability. A lot of times, knock-offs are a prank. I've tried a lot of different brands, and the majority of them have let me down. For instance, the last time I purchased replacements for a few SMT-based components, SMT-750 and SMT-SMT-SMT-SMT-SMT The battery life was estimated to be three years for 1500 units. 5 years. I labeled the UPSs conservatively so that the batteries could be checked after two years. Well, 1. After 5 years, we had a prolonged power outage, and all of the units' batteries failed miserably. Our UPS solutions have all been designed to have a 2-hour runtime, which is an unusually long time, but with the original batteries, the 2-hour runtime is achievable. The goal of one hour was achieved. We lost power in a matter of minutes when the outage occurred after the replacement batteries were installed. The batteries died a long time before they were supposed to. br>br>Here are a few examples of links to batteries that have failed prematurely.

Do you really want to give your network a backdoor? Because I've had an APC UPS for quite some time, replacing it with the SMC1500C seemed like a no-brainer
3/5

However, the light bulb went off when I connected the UPS to the network and attempted to use the internal web browser, as I had done with all of my other UPS. I was taken aback when I discovered that the UPS does not have an internal web browser. There are no open ports. It only has one network capability: remote management via the smartconnect. apc. com link. This essentially means I'm going to open a back door. door to my network with no control, relying solely on APC / Schneider's assurances If you want to call me old, you can. fashioned, but it's not worth the risk.

Beware of Amazon if you're looking to buy something
3/5

We received two of these for our company. One was fine, while the other was giving me a b fault code. When it was first turned on, it had a temperature of 12 degrees Fahrenheit. I tried to exchange it for another, but Amazon wouldn't let me. I called Amazon's "tech support" to have a difficult-to-understand agent read a script to me. I've already tried unplugging the battery, plugging it back in, and so on to troubleshoot the UPS, but the fault code remains the same. APC was connected to the call by Amazon Tech Support, who then hung up and left me with APC. They then demanded that I un-un-un-un-un-un-un-un-un Unplug the battery from the faulty item, reconnect it, and test it again; the fault code remains the same. I'm on the phone right now trying to arrange for a replacement. The bottom line is that, despite the fact that they sold it, Amazon will not take care of it; instead, they will refer you to the manufacturer to speak with about getting it replaced. I was disappointed with Amazon because it was a waste of my time and a good reason to purchase this type of equipment locally for support.

Excellent product, dangerously clueless support
5/5

I'm using the APC SMC1000C for my IT equipment, which includes a Buffalo Terastation 1200D running a raid. Contrary to what a completely clueless APC support twonk told me, this ups CAN be connected via usb to the nas, and the nas WILL be able to be programmed to SHUT DOWN gracefully via its browser interface. br>All you have to do now is plug the UPS into the wall, connect it to the NAS via USB, plug the NAS into the UPS, and boot the NAS. Set it up to synchronize with the UPS on the NAS administration page in your browser; I tested it by setting it to shut down one minute after loss of mains power and then pulling the plug on the UPS; it worked perfectly. br>There's no need for the included PowerChute "Business Edition" software, which is primarily aimed at servers. Because it's brand new and I don't know anything else about it, I'm giving it three stars for battery life. One star for customer service because I was told flat out that this UPS will not send shutdown information to the NAS via USB.

It was difficult to get it to connect for monitoring after a sloppy installation
3/5

The 3000, believe it or not, is far less difficult to set up. Schneider's rails are a mystery to me. Expect a few f-words to be thrown around. Attempt to cram this pos into your rack while drenched in sweat. What a load of nonsense. You don't need the optional nic because ethernet is built in, but I finally gave up trying to get the device to connect to their service. br>br>I hate this unit as much as I love the 3000 2u. br>br>Move up to the 3000 and simplify your life. This was a price-conscious, low-budget client who was squeezing every last penny out of me. What you pay for is exactly what you get. This device is a pain to use.

It's unobtrusive and effective
5/5

This is a step up from my previous APC UPS. It's been a while since I've seen that one. However, I recently purchased a new computer that requires a good sine wave signal, so I purchased this one. Setup is simple and straightforward. The battery was almost fully charged when it arrived. It was a simple matter of plugging it into an outlet and connecting my computer, monitor, and router. The display is very easy to understand. I'll give it five stars as long as it continues to function. It's a substantial piece. In the neighborhood of 40 pounds Perhaps some finger grips should be built into the case. br>For my NAS, I'll use my old unit. Last year, I had replaced the battery in that one. br>br>June 17, 2018 Update: There is nothing negative to say about this. Due to utility work being performed across the street, I lost power one day. They turned off the power for a few hours, but I had no trouble keeping the computer running until I shut it down several minutes later. It's been a very quiet UPS that's been running.
