Does the job, but there is a slight loss of brightness and clarity
4/5

It's adequate, but not exceptional. br>br>I'm using a HP Elitebook 840 G3 14-inch laptop. I chose the well-known brand over the Akamai privacy filter, which is also available for a few dollars less on Amazon. The number 15 was my pick. I chose a 6" black filter because I wanted the filter to extend beyond the display area and into the black bezel. I had to trim it down by 17mm, but it now fits perfectly. Thankfully, we have a nice paper cutter/guillotine, so it was a breeze. The filter, 6 adhesive strips, slide mount tabs, and instructions are all included in the package (see picture). The enclosed lint-free cloth is to be used to clean your display, according to the instructions. My package did not include a cloth (to be fair, the packaging does not mention a cloth). The dimensions are 194 x 345 mm, according to the packaging. 192mm x 352mm was my measurement. Slightly out of whack, but not by much. br>br>Note that one of the long sides of my filter has a curved notch offset of center, whereas the product image shows a sharper notch in the very center of the long side; this isn't a big deal, but it's worth noting. br>br>What I like about it:br>The filter does exactly what it says - I sat about where I would expect a fellow passenger on a plane to sit next to me and could barely see anything because it filters the picture for those trying to look at the screen from an angle to the side. I could only see if I deliberately moved closer to get a better angle, which would be very obvious. br>br>I used the adhesive strips to keep it from sliding around on my flat display. The slide mount tabs were not used in this project. It has a very clean appearance and almost doesn't appear to have a privacy filter. Those slide mount tabs are so unsightly, and this looks really nice. br>br>Installation was very simple, and I used the adhesive strips instead of the tabs, as I mentioned. The instructions for mounting are straightforward. It went on smoothly and doesn't leave any bubbles on the display. br>br>The touchscreen is actually quite good; I don't need to apply any extra pressure, which is a plus. My recommendation is to get the largest one available for your application and trim it down if necessary. That's preferable to getting one that appears to "fit" but is too small to use the adhesive strips, for instance. br>br>Because my screen is already glossy, I kept it that way. I didn't like how dark the matte was. br>br>What I don't like:br>The main thing is that the filter reduces visual clarity and brightness, even when viewed straight ahead, regardless of which side it is on. Without the filter, none of the images or text are as sharp as they are. Even with the brightness turned all the way up, it's probably around 70-80 degrees. 80% of full bright with the filter in place with the filter in place with the filter in place with the% I'm guessing it's because of the "louvers" they use to create the filters. This, in my opinion, is the most significant flaw in this product. I'll have to wait and see how irritating it becomes over time, but it's worth noting. br>br>It's a trade-off. due to the adhesive strips being used instead of the glue This is less removable due to the tabs. What I mean is that the instructions say you can remove and replace it, but it's clear that it's not meant to be taken out every time you use your laptop. This means that removing and replacing the adhesive tabs will be more inconvenient if I'm watching a video or doing something that requires more clarity or brightness, so I'll probably just leave it on and live with the reduced visual clarity. br>br>The location of the pointer stick is also a concern of mine. Even without the filter, I know it leaves a small mark on my display when I close my lid. I've verified that it works the same way with the filter in place. One thing I'm not sure about is whether it'll leave a permanent mark on the filter or just a mark that can be wiped away. Let's see how things turn out. br>br>It's worth noting that I don't see the vertical lines that others claim to see. br>br>Overall, I like it, but keep in mind that it won't be as sharp or bright as it would be otherwise. EDIT: br>br> I tried removing the filter that was stuck on with adhesive strips, and it came off fairly easily. I was able to connect it, and it appears to be quite secure. I wouldn't recommend doing this too often because it could collect dust or lose adhesion if the display is dirty, but it does seem to work every now and then. br>br>UPDATED 04. 2018br>I'm pleased with the product after using it for a month and on several business trips (including one overseas). I've had colleagues sitting next to me tell me they couldn't see what was on my screen unless they were almost over my shoulder. It hasn't been damaged (i. e. it hasn't been harmed). , creases, dents, and scratches) caused by the display's frequent opening and closing - It's still quite early! Any smudges left by the keyboard and pointer stick can be easily removed with a damp cloth. br>br>While the reduced clarity and brightness irritate me at times, working on a plane with dimmed cabin lights provides an unexpected benefit. But the rest of the time I wish it were a little brighter than it is. br>br>After a month, I'm still glad I bought it and would recommend it to others.

Vertical lines that are distracting
3/5

Very let down. About three years ago, I had this same brand of privacy filter for a workplace laptop computer, and it was ideal: I could easily view my display while preventing prying eyes from seeing what was on my screen. This privacy filter works great, but no matter which side of the filter I choose (matte or glossy), there are vertical lines. My guess is that the lines are caused by a polarization issue because they remind me of the effect that can be obtained when wearing polarized sunglasses and looking through a polarized window. When I turned the screen 90 degrees, the lines became horizontal. I turned the screen 45 degrees so that it balanced on a corner and the lines vanished just for fun. So maybe the screen wasn't properly oriented before being cut by the manufacturer? In any case, the lines are so distracting that I've skipped using the adhesive strips to secure the privacy screen to my laptop. This isn't something I could see myself doing on a regular basis. This will most likely be the first time I've returned an Amazon purchase.

Interferes with direct screen vision and performs poorly in terms of privacy
3/5

The filter is durable and can be removed for cleaning and reuse. It was simple to put it into practice. The two- The provided double-sided tape did not work well when it came to removing and reusing it. This screen is designed to block or distort the view of anyone sitting on either side (imagine an airplane or a meeting). However, I discovered that it only darkened the screen image, making it more difficult to see but not impossible. Furthermore, when looking at the laptop monitor head on, it greatly distorted and darkened the user's view. When viewed head on (directly across from screen), both the matte and glossy sides had unacceptable levels of distortion. A cleaning cloth was mentioned in the instructions for installing the screen. The package did not include this. I would have returned it if the return window had not closed. I would not recommend this product because it did not meet my expectations.
