Questions & Answers

What kind of data connection is built into the drive? female "usb-" "micro-c" or "micro-female" is a term used to describe a female "b super-fast"? Is it one of these, or a different kind?

A USB Micro-B connector is included on the drive. It includes two USB-A and USB-B cables. USB Micro-A to USB A B, as well as USB Micro USB to C Adapter So if your computer has either a type-in or a type-out keyboard, it will work. type A or type- C USB port (Thunderbolt-3 on a Mac uses a type-C port as well) C port (you can also connect this drive to one of those ports). The drive is a spinning platter drive with a 5400rpm speed, and the enclosure is USB 3.0 compatible. 0 (also known as USB 3.0) is a type of USB connection that allows you to transfer data at high 1 gen1). There's no reason to use a USB 3.0 port because the drive is much slower than the interface. With a spinning platter drive, use a 1 gen2 or Thunderbolt interface.

Is there a PS4 version of this?

What makes this model stand out from the WD 2TB Black My Passport Portable External Hard Drive - usb 3. 0 - 4b0020bbk wdbs4b0020bbk wdbs4b0020bbk w wesn ?

There are three variations: This drive comes with a smaller casing. There are no rubber stomps on the bottom to prevent it from sliding. The operation light has been reduced in size. Aside from that, nothing has changed: USB3 and NTSF are two formats that can be used together.

Just to make sure, this is compatible with Windows 10? I have a four-year-old external hard drive that doesn't work, and I'm concerned that this one will as well. ?

Windows 10 will no longer support image backups after the latest update, as three Windows 10 computers have discovered. The error messages indicate that Windows prefers that you use third-party backup software. There are many free software programs that will do this, but you'll need an external drive; I'm not sure about Windows 10's file backup, which is basically a copy and paste program. Folders are also backed up by the free image programs.

Physical construction is good, and the brand is dependable, but the transfer is slow and the software is inadequate
3/5

I've purchased over ten Western Digital hard drives, both internal and external, over the last 15 years. They all worked fine; I only had one hard drive fail after many years of use. br>br>When I first received this drive, I was very pleased with it. It appeared to be well-made. It passed all internal and external tests with flying colors. Surface tests passed with flying colors in the program. Surface tests and full formatting took the expected amount of time for an external drive of this size (approximately 15 hours for full write/read surface test). When I first started backing up my data to it, however, it took much longer than I had anticipated. Normally, backing up all of my data (approximately 3. 0 TB) takes between 20 and 30 hours. It took more than 100 hours to back up my data to an USB 3 drive, and while it appeared that each file was being written at a normal speed, there were long periods of time between files, sometimes several minutes, when the drive appeared to be doing nothing. I double-checked that the problem wasn't with my computer, cable, or USB port - Other drives connected to the same port/cable did not have this issue. Throughout the backup process, the issue remained the same. It didn't help to restart the computer or switch USB ports. The drive made no unusual noises or vibrations, read speed was unaffected, and the data was written correctly in the end. br>br>I attempted but failed to update the firmware on the drive. Even though I had nothing else connected, the WD firmware updater only said "disconnect all USB devices except one hard drive you want to update. " This message did not allow me to proceed. br>br>I considered returning this drive, but ultimately decided to keep it because I needed a new external hard drive, there aren't many options for 5T portable drives right now, and I didn't want to waste time testing and then backing up my data on another drive; also, as far as I can tell, whatever issues this drive has have no bearing on data reliability. br>br>Finally, I'd like to bring up a point. WD has released "WD Discovery," a new piece of software. The drive came without any documentation, but according to the WD website, "WD Discovery allows you to download and keep up to date other WD Apps, as well as learn about software from WD partners. " The last part appears to be a large piece of adware, but out of curiosity, I tried to install it in Sandboxie (a virtualized environment that ensures programs can be uninstalled cleanly). The installation failed because WD discovery attempted to install a kernel driver that Sandboxie does not support; I'm not sure why a program whose stated purpose is to assist in the download of other apps would require a kernel driver.

Overpriced, sluggish, poorly designed, shoddy construction, and crammed with junk software
3/5

The price difference between 4TB and 5TB is astronomical. HDD drives are far too slow and outdated to justify such a high price tag. br>br>For some reason, this model doesn't have any non-adjacent non-adjacent non-adjacent non-adjacent non-a The cheap plastic surface is particularly glossy and slippy, resulting in slipping feet. As a result, it glides across any flat, hard surface like a hockey puck. I have three previous models of My Passport, all of which have non-functional features. Toes slip. This is a truly incredible design flaw on WD's part. br>br>The software that comes with it is a complete waste of time: The LED on/off toggle in WD Discovery doesn't work, and when I open WD Drive Utilities, it crashes and stops responding—it has to be force quit, and then properly ejecting the drive becomes a hassle because it's stuck as "in use. " "br>br>I have nine other WD external hard drives, but this is most likely going to be the last.

The name and description of the product are deceiving
3/5

There is no USB C connector on this device. Western Digital sells adapters, which I can purchase. Make sure your product's description is correct! The connector on the hard drive isn't USB C, which is why none of the pictures show it.

Failure on the same day
3/5

There was no cosmetic damage and the package was unopened and undamaged when it arrived. Drive was delivered in advance of schedule. The drive was formatted as NTFS and came with installers for both Mac and Windows. Before putting the drive to use, I ran the included installer and then a full WD diagnostics. After less than 10 hours of backup use, the drive stopped working and will not mount (or dismount) on any of my systems (Windows 7, Windows 10, and MacOS). I can't use the drive because WD software can't 'fix' or mount it. It's also started making that annoying clicking noise that others have complained about. I've been using WD drives for the past 20 years, both internal and external, with no problems. This one was a letdown, and it's been given a low rating.

Good performance, smaller physical size; I plan to use it as a backup drive because it is physically smaller than the older WD USB drives I have
