As I have mentioned, this is an old question, but I am 5'4" and weigh 125 pounds. There is some baggyness in the fit, but not excessively so.
A bunch of my wife's UA hoodies (zip and pullover) are medium, and she also has a soft shell from North Face. The carhartt fits very closely at medium and she has it in medium. There's a bit more room since this is less sporty and meant for work and other uses.
The large is the best choice if you like layers and lots of room.
The medium was purchased for my granddaughter, who stands at 5'2 and weighs 110 pounds. She finds it to be roomy, yet it is not too large. In my opinion, you would benefit from the small. I think you want the fit of the sweatshirt to be a little larger because the sweatshirt is medium weight.

My favorite Carhartt product is a jacket, and I own quite a few of them because I'm always out in different weather. According to me, Carhartt pants are true to size (8), however their tops, jackets, and hoodies are not. My favorite thing about this hoodie is its design. My height is 5' 3" and my weight is 115 lbs so finding things that fit me well isn't easy. I bought an extra small and it fits perfectly. It's a nice sweatshirt, but it's not what I was looking for -- 50/50 cotton. The garment is from Vietnam and has a nylony feel to it. These heavy duty ones from Carhartt are made in Honduras and are certainly soft to the touch. The overall experience is quite good, just not what I would expect from a brand oriented to this type of music.
A soft, comfortable feel with a thick but not overwhelming feel. This wallet has a pocket inside a pocket, and the smaller pocket contains a phone pocket, which to me is pretty cool. Due to the many times I have worn this sweatshirt, I had to get more. The material must be of good quality. The material is thick, but it is Water-resistant to a certain extent. It may be better to order a larger size if you like your sweatshirts loose fitting, as this shirt fits snug The most noticeable part about this is that the gray color become very pimpled after the first washing. Using a lint shaver, all the balled up material was removed, and after many more washes it has not pilled much since then. I didn't have the same problem with the other colors.
Over the past few years, I have owned over ten women's Carhartt jackets, and this has by far been my favorite. Soft, comfortable, and fits just the way I want. As for my size, I am 5'6" 120 pounds and it is a small for me. While I could wear a thin jacket underneath, I would rather wear an extra-long sleeved shirt while it is cold outside. When I wore this hoodie, I received several compliments due to the crisp black. We'll be buying more in other colors in the near future!.
