My apologies for the delay in replying. This item is an adjustable necklace, so there is a 4.25-inch diameter metal part. There is a chain with a diameter of 5inch, but this size is too small for many people, so we usually need to adjust it to the proper size to make the chain out to be 17 inches in total length (including the metal). You may need to bend it at the neck to fit but that's easy to do. There is a lot of thickness and durability to this. Despite the chain in the back being a pain to clasp, it still makes a good gift.

To put it in perspective -- The costume I got this for was for a Halloween party and I would probably give it It is slightly adjustable, which is good. I would give it 5 stars if I could. On the back there is a chain, and the metal part of it may also be bent a little. In other words, the middle third or so will bend so you can make it bigger if needed. It is important to take into account that the parts closest to the chain are harder to bend, so even if you make it wider, the ends may dig into your neck if it is placed incorrectly. In order to compensate for this, it fits a bit oddly. The middle and ends fit right on the throat, while the parts between have a weird gap between them. It may fit someone with enough patience, but even then, it's probably not perfect.

If it's only for a few hours or you have a thin neck, you might be fine wearing this, but most of us will probably find it uncomfortable.

It can be a little uncomfortable to bend your neck in certain positions for the width of the brace. Even so, it is sturdy and adjustable without having to worry about it breaking, which makes it a very nice product.
