Anyone concerned about sun protection should purchase this item immediately! Because I've had two melanomas, I'm extremely cautious around the sun. I bought it because we were going to be walking around an amusement park for days on end and I wanted to be safe. This scarf folds up to almost nothing and is extremely light. It's so simple to throw in a backpack with it. But, outside in the heat, humidity, and direct sunlight, I thought a wrap around my shoulders and neck would be oppressive. I'm taken aback by how cozy it is. Not only does it provide excellent sun protection, but it also makes me feel cooler because it shields me from direct sunlight. Also surprising, we began our week with a volleyball tournament in a freezing convention center. Indoors, this was ideal as a wrap around my shoulders. It made me feel very at ease. I wish I'd known about this a long time ago. . . It's so useful!! It's long enough to go over your shoulders and cover your arms all the way down to your hands. It's wide enough to drape down the majority of your back, almost to your waist, once you've slipped it over your shoulders.
This was purchased for a trip to Ireland and Greece that I recently took. It worked well as a scarf in Ireland because it was cold. It was also ideal for the beach in Greece because I'm tall (5'8'') and easily burn. I'd go into the water and instead of reapplying sunscreen, I'd just lay down and cover my entire body with this. It was big enough to cover my entire body except my head. (I don't give a damn if I look like a dork. ) It was also ideal for long days spent walking around in the sun. When the sun was at its brightest, I simply covered my back and shoulders. When I wasn't wearing it, I tied it around my waist because the fabric is stretchy. I didn't get sunburned in the Greek sun for 12 days because of this scarf. I'm so happy I purchased it!.
Shirts come in crew and v-neck styles. My neck is exposed as a result of this. When the sun got too hot, I wore it as a shawl/wrap, and it really did keep the sun off my front and back necks (as well as my forearms). I just draped it around my neck in a scarf-like fashion whenever we went inside or on rides. It's also great as a shawl/wrap over a bathing suit for added coverage while walking through hotel lobbies or sitting at poolside restaurants. I even wore it in the evenings when I got cold. My daughter also wrapped herself in it on a chilly morning when she forgot her jacket on the way to the parks. I was concerned that it would be too large for my needs, but it turned out to be ideal, and I used it far more than I had anticipated. I simply folded it and stuffed it into my bag. Love it!.
On my 5'8" 145 lb frame, it's big enough to be worn as a skirt. I just ordered another one in black, and I'm thinking about getting a few more in different colors and patterns.
It can be scrunched up and worn as a scarf or draped over the shoulders like a shawl. It doesn't appear to be an SPF product, but it does have a sporty vibe to it. ish fabric, not as heavy as bathing suit material, won't provide much warmth (outdoor wedding dropped to 50 degrees without the use of heat lamps, yay). But if you want protection and versatility without looking like a knucklehead, this is the way to go. PS: I ordered white because it washes and dries quickly.
I bought a black one a few years ago that was made of a much nicer and lighter material. Because it is thicker and heavier, it is not suitable for hot climates. It appears to be polyester of a low quality.
I originally gave it a one-star rating because I mistook it for one I purchased directly from Coolibar that was too big to use. This one is fantastic! In the car, I use it to keep the sun off of my neck, chest, and hands. Even though our windows are tinted with 99% UVA/UVB film, I am so sensitive that even mild exposure causes skin eruptions on my skin. This Sun Shawl is absolutely stunning. It's also no longer available from Coolibar, so get it now while you can!.
When I'm driving, I can quickly shield myself from the sun with this ingenious shawl. Alternatively, on a bright day. It is easy to drape over the chest and shoulders. and provides me with quick, convenient sun protection, which is critical during our ever-changing weather. Heat waves are becoming more common. It's in my car at all times. I do, however, occasionally put it on when I'm outside and need the extra protection. It has exceeded my expectations.
