Could you please explain the washing instructions to me?

I'll only hand wash, or rather soak, these scarves in cold water with a tablespoon of white vinegar (to set the dyes) and a smidgeon of Woolite hand washing fabric soak, then rinse gently in cold water and hang to dry.

Is the material genuine silk or synthetic?

Fabric with a "silk-like" feel made of polyester. Synthetic, to be precise.

Is it possible to put this on in a convertible?

It all depends on what kind of convertible you have.

Is it possible to get static electricity from wrapping it in your hair at night?

No, I do not believe that is true. I wrap my long hair in a comfortable way that does not cause static. Throughout the night, my long hair was shielded.

A large scarf is worn

The scarf appears to be smaller in the photos. This is such a large scarf that I could easily wear it as a shirt, and I'm a large. If you're looking for a small dainty scarf, this might be a little too big. I like the size and wear it on a regular basis; it appears to wash well and dry quickly.

This is a lovely and delicate piece. It looks exactly like the picture, but if you're planning on wearing it on your head, be aware that it's extremely slippery, and bobby pins may be required to keep it in place.
