It is perfect for winter hikes. A good scarf will work if the circumference is too large although there is no way to adjust it. (Add a couple of holes to the inside of the crown area and thread an elastic cord through them for even better results. The strings for tying the ear flaps below the chin or above the crown are too short. My solution is to sew a little Velcro on the ties, and it solves the problem. (Alternately, you could.

The distance from my home to work is less than five minutes. However, I am from Illinois so 5 minutes is like an eternity in the winter for me. Due to the woolen cap, I've been wearing a monkey cap, ear muffs, and muffler all day. Further, my hair gets all messed up due to wearing the muffler. I think this one is good. The woolen cap and earmuffs are no longer part of my wardrobe. The exhaust system and this are all that's required. Additionally, my hair stays better under a woolen cap than it does when I wear a cotton one. Almost everything is there except for one thing. It would be better if there was something to cover the face as well. I would love it, but it has a lot of practical value for It's a good choice for people who want to protect their ears and heads.
