Questions & Answers
This isn't an arch support item, but it does protect the cork on the sides of the shoe from water and dirt.
Yes! Mine smelled awful and disintegrated the brush as well. I finally decided to toss it out. I suppose I should have gotten a new one from the website.
NOT this. Cork is not repaired with this method. It does not adhere to cork or leather. Rubber does not adhere to cork or leather in this way. It only seals the cork's outside to protect it from abrasion and water damage. It doesn't fix any kind of damage. You'll need a cobbler or shoe repair if you need the leather, cork, or rubber reattached. This service is available through Birkenstock's website, and it takes less than 14 days to receive your shoes.
Yes, give it some time to dry before using it; it's a real find! wonderful item

My husband's are about 20 years old and in such bad shape that we were about to throw them away. They're not perfect yet, but they're comfortable enough to wear. My daughter had two pairs of shoes that had been ruined by getting wet at the pool and working in the yard. However, I applied two thick coats to achieve the desired effect. I used the second one as spackle, filling in all of the divots completely. They don't appear to be the same pair of shoes! She'll be able to use them for at least another summer. My two pairs are newer, and I'm confident in my ability to maintain their appearance. From now on, I'm only going to use this product once a year. My Birkenstocks' corks were completely sealed, leaving a nice glossy finish. It goes on white so you can see where you've put it, comes with a handy brush for easy application, and dries clear and glossy.
I recently attempted to purchase a Birkenstock renewing product, assuming it was the same product repackaged in a different package. I was completely wrong; it was a sealer that didn't meet my needs, which is why I bought this product, which does everything I wanted it to do. I cleaned my sandals as thoroughly as I could, then applied multiple coats of cork to the soles, allowing each coat to dry in between. I repaired four pairs of sandals that had crumbled and were no longer usable. I still have about half a bottle of cork renew left after applying three coats to four pairs of sandals.
I'm very happy! I purchased a pair of Clarks Women's Caslynn Shae cork platform sandals, and while reading the reviews, I discovered that someone recommended using this product to seal and protect the cork. What a brilliant concept! Before wearing them, I used plastic packing tape to seal the nubuck and insole, and then painted the cork platforms. They appear to be fantastic - The product has a subtle sheen to it that is very appealing and dries clear. It's also simple to operate - It goes on white so you can see any missed spots, has a smooth consistency, and the brush is attached to the lid so it can be stored in the bottle. I also purchased Clarks Women's Palima Palm sandals in gold and white, both with cork soles, and they'll be my next purchase. Then it's on to my old Birks to see if I can breathe new life into them; this bottle will last forever! I'm very happy with this product and the results I've gotten so far with it. Recommend 100% of the time! br>7/12/16 Update: Clark's Palima Palm and my Birks look fantastic together! Take a look: I went out and purchased a pair of beat-up sneakers. up, pre- The cork platforms on my Mephisto Helen sandals are cracked multiple times. If I hadn't known Cork Renew could fix them, I wouldn't have bought them. I used 3 coats of CR directly to the cracks (allowing 2 hours between coats to dry), then 1 layer of the product to cover all of the exposed cork (see before and after photos below). The cracks are barely visible! Cork Renew filled in the cracks and reinforced the rest of the cork that had been exposed. So, in addition to protecting, this product also repairs and restores! Furthermore, it renders the cork watertight. It's magical, and if I could, I'd give it ten stars. I'm back to buy more because I was holding the bottle in the same hand as the sandal, and when I flipped the sandal over, I also flipped the bottle. Self-reminder: Don't do it again; the shoes will look better! (It's also worth noting that you don't need to tape off the shoes before applying Cork Renew. ) The brush is stiff but not too difficult to use. If any gets on the upper or outsole, simply wipe it away before it dries.
The cap was firmly fastened, but a few raps on the counter helped loosen it. SO . To avoid this happening again, I thoroughly wiped out the bottle's lid and lip this time (lol). br>However, I'm writing to confirm that the contents are in perfect working order and can be applied without difficulty. For those unfamiliar with this product, it is a non-toxic mild adhesive glue that protects cork by sealing in natural moisture and providing a barrier against external dirt and water such as rain. When applied in thin layers, it is non-toxic, simple to use, and most effective. It will not 'glue' things back together, such as a torn strap, because the adhesive is insufficient. Repairing small tears or loose pieces of cork, on the other hand, is all that is required. (Better results can be achieved by applying a small dot of regular glue to the loose piece before using Cork Renew. ).
It applies smoothly, dries clear, and does the job on Birkenstock, Haflinger, Stegmann, and other high-end cork footbed shoes. I've been wearing cork soled shoes all year in the Seattle rain for years, and the cork seal makes a huge difference. One bottle should last at least ten pairs of shoes (or ten redos of the same pair of shoes once the seal has worn off). A small investment of time and money will greatly extend the life of your costly cork-soled shoes. You'll be glad you took the time to learn about it. When the shoes are brand new, I recommend applying two coats (allowing time for each to dry). Check the cork every 6 months or so after that to see if it needs to be recoated. Apply another coat if the cork appears to be dry or dull. It has a milky appearance when first applied, but it dries clear. This is actually a benefit because it allows you to see where you've already applied the product.
