The compartments, unfortunately, cannot be removed.
Khaki, a tan/beige color with a smidgeon of green, is the closest color I can come up with. At the very least, that's how the one I got is.
No, it looks more like plexiglass to me.
The top is made of glass, after all.

I liked that this box's description clearly states "leatherette," rather than attempting to fool you into thinking you're buying a real leather product. Although the previous box was more expensive, and it did have three layers, I much prefer this one. From the stitching to the latch, the quality is simply superior. The other box had uneven compartments due to misaligned dividers, which could have simply been a quality control issue, but it should have been better than this one given the higher price tag and description of extreme quality. As I previously stated, the latch on this box is a lot nicer, which I didn't think would make much of a difference visually, but it does. One thing I'd like to point out, which you should be able to see in the photos, is that the interior is a soft yellow color with soft flocked-like fabric. It was said to be green, I believe. In addition, the compartments are large enough to hold two pairs of glasses. I'm glad I gave the other one back in exchange for this one.
If you're like me and have worn glasses since childhood and need to wear them all the time due to poor vision, this eyewear storage box is a must-have. I have several nice expensive pairs of prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses, and this box is perfect for storing them all in one place. It's well-made and looks great on top of my dresser for the price.
My dresser has a nice, clean look to it, and it's exactly what I wanted. This isn't even close to being a high-quality product. It's not falling apart, but it's not falling apart either. Aside from that, it's not cheap. The hardware is one point of contention. If you have short fingernails, the main latch can be difficult to grasp because the indentation on the underside that allows you to grab it and lift it up is small and close to the case's body, if that makes sense. The drawer's little knob is also quite small, but it's not difficult to grasp. br>In general, this works for me and allows me to organize my glasses, cleaning cloths, and other items more efficiently.
I have a total of five pairs of cute "going out" glasses that I rotate on a regular basis. It was critical for me to have an organizer that was both transparent and attractive. For me, this is exactly what I was looking for. I keep vintage glasses in the bottom drawers because they're so small that two can fit in each department.
I had my heart set on a $300 case that my Eyewear rep sells, but then I came across this one, which should solve my problem of not knowing where my glasses are. Instead, I would have preferred to find one in white with two drawers and no lid, so that I could store items on top.
The box is very attractive. Ideal for a wide range of sunglasses sizes.
I just wish it had more capacity because I have a serious sunglasses problem.
After two replacements, I'm convinced that this item is simply poorly constructed. The latch screws come undone, and the item is completely separated when it arrives. Inside the first shipment, there was no padding. When it arrived the second time, there was some padding, but not enough. The latch has completely separated from the box each time. It's impossible to put the tiny screws back together. Although it is a lovely item, it is poorly constructed.
