Hello there, the two of you. Four of the sizes are standard. A two-year-old should be able to wear a size two. Small is the equivalent of a size 5/6, Medium is the equivalent of a size 7/8, and Large is the equivalent of a size 10/12. 7/8, Extra Large- 9/10, as well as XLarge - 11/12.
It's made of a thick knit fabric. It's smooth on the outside and fleecy on the inside; it's not a particularly warm coat, but because it's double breasted, it'll keep you warm in all but the coldest weather. It'll be worn all winter by my daughters.

I was able to perfectly match her school uniforms. It's warm enough to keep you warm on a chilly or rainy day. It does a good job of blocking the wind. A second layer would be necessary if there was snow or strong winds. This is something I strongly suggest.
