A small will suffice. I have a 21" head and ordered the small, which gives me a little extra room. For a 22" head, it would be quite comfortable. Unless you have a lot of thick hair, in which case a medium will suffice.
If I'm a small horma, and that was exactly what I needed, please accept my heartfelt greetings.
I'm an 8 and ordered the XXL, which is a perfect fit for me.

I have a large head, and the wind has blown this hat off a couple of times. It provides adequate sun protection and appears to be long-lasting.
This is the hat I wear when I go gardening. Many branches fell on my head while I was trimming an overgrown juniper, but the hat deflected them nicely. The sturdiness of the brim was fantastic! No plant parts got stuck in my bra (which is my biggest garden pet peeve). I was afraid the branches would break the hat, but it didn't even break. Also, I really like how the brim doesn't flop around in the wind here in Coastal California! This hat is perfect for a day at the beach. br>I ordered a small and it was a little big on me, but it worked out fine when I braided my hair. I'm a small person, more like a child in size. One of the reasons I chose this hat over others was its ability to be sized down.
The hat fit nicely. I'm a 7-year-old girl who likes to dress up. The XL and 5/8" ball cap are about the same size. I'm not sure about the long-term reliability of the hat because it arrived damaged (see photos). Because the Amazon box was too small, the brim was forced upward during shipping, which was also not ideal. I responded by returning it. For me, the material beneath was also a little light in color. It was a light blue with a dark blue undertone. I'm not sure if I'll re-use it because it's a little too feminine. order. Look for a hat that is more durable and has a black liner. Most $20 hats, I'm guessing, are just as thin. The fact that the hat came in different sizes was a plus for me. I can't wear one-size-fits-all hats because they are too small for me.
The elastic on the inside is incredibly soft. It appears to be in good condition and appears to be able to withstand several seasons in the sun. It looks great.
The only issue I have is that when the flash goes off, the hat blocks it. This isn't a flaw in the hat; it's just that I need to learn to wear it further back on my head when shooting with flash. It's a nice hat for the summer.
This hat arrived bent and damaged; I would never buy it again; I'm so angry that I don't even want to deal with returning it as trash; never again. On one of the pictures, you can see the box it arrived in; how could it fit if it wasn't folded?.
One of the few hats that fit my head is this one. I usually wear a size 8 in ballcaps and the XXL fits me perfectly. The only gripe I have is that it began to tear almost immediately. It won't be able to withstand being sat on or excessive bending. I would have given it three stars if it weren't for the fact that a big had is difficult to come by.
The color of the US flag is beautiful, and the hat is very comfortable. In addition, the price is very reasonable. I got a large and it's perfect for me.
