Questions & Answers

My scarpa helix shoes fit great after breaking them in, so will these shoes break in the same way? If so, should I go up or down a size?

While I haven't experimented with the helix, I had to go up a size from my normal miura lace size us9 to us10, and they broke in very quickly for me, and still fit perfectly to this day.

Since breaking in the Scarpa Helix 41, I have been climbing in them and they've been extremely comfortable. Would these shoes break in similarly to a pair of jeans, or should I go tighter or looser?

Sometimes it is hard for me to respond because I tend to downsize. Then again, they do break in well. It's been about a year since I've started climbing in mine. Although I did have to break them in, I had to work them. In any case, it fits like a glove now. That should be of some help.

This is an excellent shoe with many uses
5/5

The pros are Ideal for someone with a wide toebox who wants a good fit. I am wearing a 43 and it fits properly on my street shoe 10. There is no wiggle room at all, but it is It probably would have been better to go down half a size for extended use, but I wanted them to feel comfortable. Edges like a dream, as they say. I can create footboards that were previously thought to be impossible with It has actually been mentally believing that they will hold on, not holding on, that has been the hardest part. As I originally bought them, I wanted to use them for tougher routes with overhangs and lots of tiny edge work. Nonetheless, they have become my main shoe since I've owned them for a few months now. You can wear it at the crag all day long without feeling uncomfortable. They will not work well for anything where I will be doing some smearing, due to the aggressive profile. Toe has a nice hook/point to it, which isn't as sharp as some of the other shoes I have. The cons are Your feet turn orange when they touch them. After pulling them out for the first time, I thought they had seriously messed up my foot circulation. They looked scary after going into my foot with them on. Also, the soles took time to "wear in," since they were really hard when I first put them on and the grip was lacking. There is a little difference in the width of the heel compared to most I wouldn't have a problem since I have a bigger heel, but it could be an issue for someone else. It's really hard to think of any other negative aspects of these shoes. They are really impressive and versatile.

The shoes are excellent not only for climbing overhangs, but also for climbing technical faces
5/5

The majority of my climbing is done in the gym, and I like to do The size of my shoe is There are 5 street shoes and 9 dress shoes. Evolv Pontas in size 5 and FiveTen Anasazi VCS in size 9. I find both the Pontas and Anasazi VCS to be very snug, but when I start sweating my feet begin to slip out of the toebox. The 41 does not present that problem for me. I am using the Instincts in one of my practice sessions. At first they were uncomfortable, but after 8 sessions they are comfortable. I felt I had awkwardly placed feet in the shoe right out of the box, but after I broke them in, I was able to wear them comfortably The fit is almost glove-like, and I may have been able to size down to a 41 if my right foot were a tad bit smaller (this would have worked for my left foot too). There is no comparison between the Anasazi VCS and these shoes when it comes to edge. I did not experience any slippage on the heel hooks, even when there was just a teeny bit of dead space.

Shoe that is hard to squeeze but provides excellent performance
4/5

My height is 5'8" and I am a size It turned out that I needed to return these 5 mens and get the 42s instead since they were a bit loose. Upon pulling my feet out, they looked like hamburger and there was a bulge in my laces which implied that I could have gone up It's a 5. Based on trying on other Scarpas, I normally wear a size There is a slight difference between a 5 and a 42 in this shoe. We were surprised at how easy it was to return items for free. There is nothing too aggressive about the shoe itself, but it I really like this for wedgeing a toe between the chips to edge my way in and get my feet wet. The toe box is covered which should keep them from wearing out as quickly as other sneakers. Considering the price, the shoe is quite good and I look forward to breaking it in once it is broken.

This is an excellent overall climbing shoe
5/5

I have not purchased these shoes for the first time. (I interchange them with Instincts) The first one lasted nearly two years. Having the right fit and feeling comfortable in them is important for me. This may be overkill for my climbing, but it's not easy to get rid of. I just want top notch climbing shoes overall. The shoes have held up well without developing any holes and seem suitable for resoles in the future.

It's all about the lace, Laces are your thing if you want a shoe like this
5/5

This may not be the best looking model in the lineup but it's far from the worst. The rear is XS Edge, so it's not as grippy as the front, but it's a durable, aggressive all-arounder An excellent all-around shoe with probably the best heel cup you can find.

I love this shoe because it is so aggressive
5/5

I love this shoe because it is so aggressive. These shoes fit perfectly even though I have a wide foot. It is really easy to adjust how the shoes fit thanks to the laces. After a shower and a few climbing sessions, the shoes felt just right. I downsized a half size from my gym shoe size. Initially fairly uncomfortable, but after a shower they felt.
