The hood is shaped more like a pocket. Out comes the hood when the collar of the hood is unzipped. In order to hide the hood, you simply tuck it back in and zip it up.
The jacket is a bit brown but it is a very attractive color I have gotten several compliments on it that if it ever gets damaged, I will order another one I would definitely recommend

The cold weather I see most of the time in Texas is not very severe, so this jacket is probably overkill for me.
