They both wear size 10/12 and the large is a perfect fit.
There is a size 4 in them for my daughter. For an 11-year-old I think they would be too small.
I have a 9-year-old who is 4'06" and she has no reach to the tips of her fingers. In the case of a short daughter, that method may work.

I didn't expect them to be so big and the size is all wrong. In terms of size, I bought a 7/8 for my seven-year-old The year is Her fans are massive on her, even though she is old. This item seems to have decent quality for the price, but the size guide on the site is entirely inaccurate. In order to buy for my daughters, I referenced the sizing chart, and I measured both of them to make sure I ordered the right size. However, when the clothing arrived, it was much larger than the chart indicated. I believe that this is a general size chart and not a chart These shorts would not even have stayed up on my daughters with waists of 27". If they had been wearing the large (maybe even the medium), the shorts would have been a different story.
For my 12 year old, who is tall (5'1) and thin (103 pounds), I ordered the 7/8 in which is a medium size. Despite getting a large, this fit her good all over and in the waist. If I had gotten a large, it would have been too big for Since the clothes are short and fitted on her, I won't dry them because I suspect they will shrink. This would make them unable to fit her at all since the clothes are already shrunken up.

In a large, the clothes would be about a size 5 for a woman. My daughter would have had a good time with these for volleyball shorts, but we ordered twice & they came with different sizes Although they were way too large for her, she still wore them. They are nice and thick and the waistband is very nice and thick, they run true to size, but they're definitely not basketball shorts.
Putting these under my daughters' dresses is the way I like to dress my daughters, so their underwear is concealed. There is a lot of room under these, but they can see their underwear. After returning to Target, I've been buying "bike shorts" all the time.
