It is all about "spikes" on the bottom that determine if they are similar or different. Football cleats are not allowed to be worn for soccer, but soccer cleats can be worn for football.

Claets of this type are designed to hug the foot, and they do exactly that, especially above the heal of the foot and right around the Achilles tendon. A great job has been done by Adidas. My 11-year-old son is going to play baseball this year and I came across these while searching for baseball cleats. When it comes to how his feet feel, my son seems picky about how they feel when playing sports. I may be responsible for that, but, it is a big deal. In addition to connecting your foot to the earth, your cleats also play an essential role in the way that your energy is returned to your body via your foot. In other words, if your cleats are not fit properly or slide, slack, or hurt, you or your child are losing collective speed with every step. I don't know what I would have done if these awesome cleats weren't on sale, but at least I got them.
