Questions & Answers

Is it possible to use the camera's digital zoom in addition to the 10x optical zoom?

Yes. Mine is one of them. I'm not sure if this is a feature added in a recent update of the Moto Mods software, if it's only on the Moto Z Force, or if I just got an updated product (I just got mine yesterday (2/26/2017), but mine will allow me to use the digital zoom after the 10x zoom has reached its maximum; it allows me to go to 40x with the digital. One caveat: if you swipe the viewfinder right on your screen while the mod is connected to your phone, you'll see a setting called "Use Digital Zoom." When you check this box, you'll be able to use the digital zoom after the optical zoom has reached its maximum of 10x. The owners manual even has a section on using the digital zoom feature (page 5) in the "Adjust Settings" section.

Is the phone's battery depleted as a result? Is it any better or more convenient than a traditional point-and-shoot camera?

I haven't taken nearly enough photos to put the battery to the test. Because the photos are stored on your phone, it is more convenient. They don't have to be moved.

Is it suitable for action shooting? as in action shots of soccer or swimming?

It would suffice for action shots for an entry-level photographer, though if you got too close to the subject, you might get some blur. There is a sport mode that can be activated to assist you with this.

Is the moto z2 force edition compatible with this mod?

Yes. It's made to work with the entire Moto Z lineup of phones.

Works flawlessly - Excellent modification - This book comes highly recommended
5/5

On my Moto Z Force, it works perfectly. Pictures that are clear and crisp. The level of excellence is incredible. This camera mod has made my life so much easier. Simple to work with. It appears to be extremely durable and should last for several years. It's packaged in a nice case to keep it clean and safe. It's small and compact, and while the maximum resolution output is only 12 megapixels, it produces a crisp, clear image that appears to work well for me. It also consumes approximately three times the amount of battery as a standard camera. It depleted my battery about 5-minutes after I used it for about 5 minutes (taking pictures, setting it up, and getting to know it). br>br>There were a lot of "No" answers when it came to using the digital zoom with this mod. Images in black and white and in raw format. br>br>The optic lens activates when the camera app is opened and deactivates when the camera app is closed; alternatively, you can use the power button on the Mod itself. br>br>As a comparison, I've attached some photos. I'm not able to attach the full-scale photos taken by the Moto Z Force (because they're about 12MB each), but by looking at these scaled down versions, which are all scaled down in the same way, I'm hoping to demonstrate the difference between the stock camera and the Moto Z Force's camera. Full optical zoom to ten times on the Mod vs. The Mod has a full optical zoom of up to 10x and a full digital zoom of up to 40x. These photos were taken indoors with no natural light and only an incandescent bulb between the camera and the paper as a light source. The distance was 12 feet as far as I could tell. br>br>So far, there hasn't been anything about this Mod that I don't like. I'll come back to update this review if anything new comes up, but for now, it's perfect for my needs.

Moto Mods Have Finally Been Validated
5/5

Moto mods may appear to be a gimmick, but this one is far from it. LG's modular system, which debuted with the G5, was a disaster. Everything was a pain because it didn't hot swap. The ease of use with Motorola was fantastic. I bought the camera to take with me on vacation, and it did not let me down. During this 7000-mile road trip, I didn't have a single breakdown. It worked flawlessly in temperatures ranging from 100 degrees to the low 30s. After thousands of stunning photographs, I am still ecstatic with my purchase and would and do recommend it to anyone I know.

It's a lot easier to use than the camera that comes with the phone
4/5

For travel, I have a regular digital camera, but I don't have a backup now. I also use telephoto lenses a lot. This appeared to be the perfect solution for filling the void. The Moto Z phone is magnetically attached to it. It's very simple to put in place and remove. It doesn't appear to consume a great deal of energy. It can't be used with any other Moto Z accessory at the same time. I took a lot of photos with it, but it only allows one at a time. The controls are simple and straightforward to use. It has a zoom co-ordinate wheel, just like my digital camera. The shutter button is where you'll find it. In addition, there is an on/off switch. I've had trouble using the Moto Z camera's built-in touch screen, but with the Hasselblad attached, it's a lot easier with a physical shutter button. Both have the same screen, of course. However, I didn't give it a fifth star because what you see in the "viewfinder" is not necessarily what you get in the camera. It chops off a piece of the right side; I had a few photos that were chopped off before I noticed this oddity. Is it possible that I'm too accustomed to a single lens reflex camera? In any case, keep an eye out for it.

It was a complete letdown
3/5

I was interested in trying out this Moto mod after reading reviews about the high quality of Hasselblad cameras and lenses. However, I was extremely dissatisfied with it, and the design's lack of thought and planning was shocking. Before being hit by the inevitable software "upgrade," I managed to squeeze out a few photos. Apart from the fact that you can zoom in, which was entertaining for a few minutes, the photos are unremarkable from any cellphone camera. It was no longer easy to start after being forced into the software upgrade; the main issue is that it still uses the shoddy Moto software and then adds a few extra features on top of it. However, the upgrade disabled the camera's easy snap-on and use features and replaced them with a nagging "Camera Error Please Restart Camera" message. And no, it wasn't just the mod software that needed to be restarted; the entire phone had to be rebooted. You must use the mod every time you want to use it. And if you leave the camera for a few minutes to look at the photos in Google Photos, you'll get the same error when you try to use it again. So, instead of this non-working camera, I'm just about ready to carry a working camera. mod is up and running. Because the mod doesn't have a battery like the speakers mods, it quickly drains your phone's battery after a few hours of photos. Because it lacks a standard threaded mount, you won't be able to mount it on a tripod (or clamp it), which is essential when zooming in or taking pictures at night. Also, while I enjoyed the zoom rocker switch and the physical focus/shutter button, I found the mod to be more difficult and clumsy to hold while connected to my phone than the phone alone, and I nearly fumbled it several times. Did I mention that a number of the photos were still blurry and out of focus? This is amazing. And it's not as if there's a macro mode for taking close-up shots. Because it has to do with functionality rather than component quality, I believe the majority of this is probably Motorola's fault rather than Hasselblad's. Barcodes are difficult to focus on with the Moto camera alone.

Amazing! 10x Zoom, Optical Stabilizer (which the Moto Z Play lacks), and Xenon Flash are all great features
5/5

Simply incredible! There is a picture without zoom and a picture with 10x zoom in those photos.
