I'm an earbud nerd, which is probably a result of both my frequent workouts (running, cycling) and working from home while wrangling small children. For the past year, I've mostly relied on a pair of truly wireless Jaybird Vista earbuds as my go-to mix of good for workouts and 'good enough' for phone calls. Despite the fact that I also have a pair of Bose SoundSport wired earbuds, Bowers Wilkins P13 wired earbuds, as well as a few off-brand pairs that I occasionally use for phone calls. These Sony WF-series cameras SP800N are my new all-around favorite earbuds. br>br>SETUP SONY APP: Fine - However, it isn't worth bragging about. I initially followed the instructions, which instructed me to open the Sony Headphone app and pair the earbuds there, but the app detected the earbuds but failed to pair them with my phone. Ignoring the instructions and simply pairing them through my phone's bluetooth settings worked right away, and the connection has remained strong ever since (no drops, and a good consistent connection even when I leave my phone downstairs and go upstairs to grab something). The Sony app is adequate in general. It has more features and allows for sound mix customization than the Jaybird earbud app, but that's a low bar to clear (the Jaybird app is truly terrible). One of the coolest features of the Sony app is the ability to set a baseline amount of ambient noise for various activities: Sitting, walking, running, and commuting are some of the activities that can be done. Since I'm a kid (read: a teenager), I set the ambient sound control level for sitting higher than the usual default because I have noisy) children at home. You must enable location detection for the earbuds to determine whether you are sitting, running, or otherwise - or at a location such as a gym, where you can specify custom settings for each location - So, if you're concerned about your privacy, you can disable location detection and thus lose those features. The fact that you can pair these earbuds with multiple devices via Bluetooth, but you have to manually switch connections means there isn't a multi-device mode. the option of a point connection CONTROLS: br>br> The vast majority of it is excellent. I like how the left and right earbuds can be set up separately to cover different areas of control, such as volume. It's not a deal breaker for me because it doesn't happen very often, but it's one area where I prefer my Jaybird Vistas because the controls are activated by pressing a physical button. There are a couple of default controls in the app that I found obnoxious and disabled: When you take out an earbud, for example, the music is automatically paused. All of those features, however, are simple to enable/disable in the app, resulting in excellent control flexibility, with control sensitivity being the only "un-usable" feature. annoyance that is fixable SOUND: br>br>SOUND: br>br>SOUND: br>br>SO Overall, the sound quality of these Sony earbuds is excellent, and they're nearly as good as a pair of over-the-ear headphones when compared to other truly wireless earbuds. Master of hearing We have the Dynamic MW65 earphones, which are significantly more expensive ($499). No wireless earbuds, in my opinion, can truly outperform over-the-ear headphones. These headphones aren't quite as good as over-the-ear headphones, but they're close. My Jaybird Vistas had excellent sound, but the Sonys have a better sound blend and, because of the Ambient Mode, allow you to hear better. Noise-cancelling capabilities (neither of which are available on the Jaybird Vistas). The Noise Cancelling is good for earbuds, but it's not perfect; if you're frequently on an airplane and want super-strong noise cancellation, I'd suggest looking into some other options. earphones (or wired earbuds, such as Bowers and Wilkins) Wilkins PI3, which is on par with these Sonys in terms of price; On the B, the noise cancellation is better. This may not be for everyone, but it's the only type I've found that will stay flawlessly in my ears during sweaty workouts. The battery life is also excellent. The earbuds have a theoretical 9-hour playback time with noise cancellation on and 13-hour playback time without it - Mine didn't last quite as long, which is understandable given how much I used the music controls, but with noise cancelling turned on, I got close to 8 hours. The case extends the battery life by another full charge, but it isn't particularly impressive. It's bulky, much bigger than the Jaybird Vista case, and has an odd oblong shape that won't fit in any pocket. OVERALL: br>br> You could probably find another brand that performs slightly better in any one category (noise cancellation, sound, battery life, etc. ). These, on the other hand, are by far my favorite truly wireless earbuds that can be used in a variety of situations. I also had the largest bud installed (for a more secure fit and improved sound isolation). I had to look through the debris on a couple of occasions to find a dropped bud. br>br>I've put the SP800Ns to the ultimate test in the two days since I got them: I've been on the roof, on the top of my patio, high on the ladder, with both gloved hands full of paint, and they've never fallen off. I would never have tried this with the 1000XMs because it was 100 degrees outside and I was drenched in sweat, which would have been dangerous with the non-sweatproof ones. However, on two occasions when I removed the SP800Ns, the largest earbuds remained in my ears. br>br> It's a little easier to get rid of them. I tried the next smaller size tip, but the looser fit means I'll lose sound isolation and a significant reduction in bass. They're so comfortable that one could even sleep in them.

Overall, these headphones are fantastic. The sound quality is excellent, the battery life is exceptional, and it meets or exceeds my expectations in almost every way. The reason I gave it a four-star rating is that these headphones are advertised as having 360-degree sound. This is correct, but there is a snag. To use the 360 sound, you'll need to download another app in addition to the Sony app. Normally, I would say, "OK, no problem. " However, the catch is that you must pay a monthly fee in order to gain access to music for the 360 effect in the app, which I checked out and found to be of low quality. I already use Google Music, so it would be nice if you could have automatic access to this feature given that I just paid $200 for it. The Bluetooth is another feature that I dislike. It's not ideal to communicate with others via Bluetooth. It's been said that it's too staticky, and I've received complaints about it. When I'm driving or walking, it's usually because of this. It's great if you're in the house and there's nothing else to do. br>Aside from those two flaws, I am very pleased with the product and plan to use it in the future. br>It stays in your ears for a long time.
