Rather than purchasing each item separately, this kit includes everything you'll need to get started, with the exception of hair dye. The cape that comes with it isn't a full cape like you'd find in a salon, but rather a shorter version that we found to be sufficient. The bowls that come with these are extremely strong and durable, which is particularly useful when mixing powder and cream. My hair was held in place by the clips, but my daughter's hair was much thicker and required more clips, which I expected. The points on these brushes are a little sharp, but when it comes to parting hair, it really does make it a lot easier than with a regular comb, which is what I love about this whole kit. The brushes come in various widths, but I've used the smaller ones on the bangs and the larger ones on the rest of the head. It's a fantastic kit, and I especially like the fact that it's reusable.
