No, I do not believe that is true. That is really the only flaw I have with it. The cover should also be waterproof, but it isn't.
It's about an inch thick and quite sturdy.

It is something he adores. We were given a bed similar to this by a friend, and we loved it so much that we needed to replace the cover. I saw this bed and fell in love with it because it matched the theme of our son's nursery. However, I couldn't get the cover without the pillow, so I ordered the set as a whole. I'm so glad I went ahead and did it. My son prefers this bed because it is softer and more comfortable. In this dock, he sleeps longer and more peacefully than in the other one that a friend gave us. I like how one side (the space side) is made of a different material than the other (the blue side), with the space side being cooler in temperature (like laying on a sheet) and the blue side being velvety soft. My six-month-old baby falls asleep while petting the fabric. It's also easier to put this bed back together after it's been washed. The middle section is a pain to get back in with my other dock, but for some reason this one goes in much easier. I believe it's because the pillow is slightly softer, which is also why my son seems to be more relaxed when he sleeps on it. It's been in his crib, our bed, and on the road with us. It has been a blessing in my life. I would buy it again in a heartbeat and recommend it to anyone.
Trying to get her to sleep in her bassinet as a new mother was a real struggle. She wanted nothing more than to be held in my arms. But, because this co sleeper adjusts, I zipped it up the tightest it would go the first night it arrived, and she slept for four hours. I could not believe my eyes. It was impossible for me to believe what I was hearing. Now that she's bigger, I've taken it away, and she can stretch out. I even told my sister, who was planning on purchasing one, that I wasn't going to give her mine.
This pillow has been fantastic in my three-month-old's bassinet! He fell asleep the first time I put him in it (for the first time in his life)! He's sleeping in his bassinet on a regular basis now. I couldn't get him to sleep in the bassinet at all before I got him the pillow. For us, this was a game changer!.
It appears to be well-made and long-lasting. It's soft and cozy for my baby, and there's plenty of room for her to grow. I washed it in the included laundry bag, and the colors are still vibrant and the fabric is nice and soft.
My only gripe is that getting the cover on and off to wash it is extremely difficult. At some point, I'm sure I'll blow out the zippers.
This was an ideal replacement for my baby's bare bassinet. It is something he adores. It's simple to put together, and the cover is simple to wash and dry. My baby began using at the age of two months and is now three months old, so I will soon have to use open. I'm glad I didn't buy the more expensive brand.
This has saved my life and the life of my third child. My second child has yet to be moved from his crib to a toddler bed. This was a gift for a new baby, and I highly recommend it. Because my baby has had a few accidents on it, I simply remove everything and wash it. I washed the cover and mattress and air dried them, and they were as good as new.
It's adorable and simple to put together, which I like. The only reason I gave it three stars was because it said it could be machine washed and tumble dried low, but it still shrank. Mine slid back in with a squeak. Because it's so tight, I'm afraid it'll rip if I have to take it off to wash it. I wish they had sold replacement covers. I'm definitely going to hang dry it the next time I wash it.
