Questions & Answers

Does the milk pass through the tubing in the same way that it does in a medela?

It does not, in fact. It has a backflow filter that prevents water from entering the tubing and flanges. You don't need to replace the tubing because it's a closed system. If you don't lose them, that is. Milk does, however, get into the filters, so make sure they are clean. The filters are simple to open and close, making cleaning a breeze. Cleaning the pump flanges, valves, bottles, and filters with Babyganics foaming dish and bottle soap is recommended. It removes the residue and is completely clean after use. I also use a skinny nipple cleaner (I buy the cheap babies r us brand skinny nipple cleaners) to clean any gunk out of the part that connects the filter and the breast pump (you'll see what I'm talking about if you buy it). Every other day or weekly, I also recommend boiling or steam sterilizing your parts to kill any bacteria. Medela valves and membranes are also compatible with the spectra S1, S2, M1, and 9 breast pump flanges, in case you lose or rip your valves and need to replace them right away. If you decide to buy this breastpump, check with your insurance company to see if you are eligible for a free breastpump through your plan. Inquire with your insurance company to see if Edgepark Medical is a DME provider for breast pumps. The S2 and 9 models are available at Edgepark. Please accept my apologies if this is lengthy; I'm just trying to make this as clear as possible.

How many/what accessories would you suggest for a first-time pumper who will be working in an office M-F? F, 8- 530?

Only milk bags and a bag to carry it all in are required. I pumped DIRECTLY into the bags, which may sound crazy. I liked the Lansinoh milk bags and carried everything in a Vera Bradley tote. Fresh milk can also be kept at room temperature for up to 9 hours without being refrigerated. So I simply put it in the VB bag, rinsed the shields and attachments before and after use, and stored them in the bag in between pumpings. Every night, I washed the parts thoroughly and put the milk in the fridge as soon as I got home. It was never left out of the fridge for longer than 7 hours, and storing everything in the bag, including the milk, ensured that I never left work without it! I pumped for three children for a total of three years, so I've tried every pump, accessory, and method out there. This is the best and simplest method for pumping!

Could you please tell me everything that comes with this particular pump? Is everything you need to use it as a double pump included?

Everything you'll need to set up a double pump (two tubes, two back-up pumps) is included. two breast shields, two valves, two bottles, and two bottle caps - flow valves, two breast shields, two valves, two bottles, and two bottle caps I'm thinking nipples for the bottles as well, though I've never used them). This pump is fantastic - I really like it. For my first child, I used a Medela pump, but this one has been much more reliable.

What happened to the adapter that allows you to pump two times at the same time? I received mine from Amazon today and was unable to locate the adapter in the box. Is it included in the package?

There is no adapter; instead, the tubes must be plugged into one of two locations: If you want to dual pump, simply plug each tube into the holes on the front of the machine; if you only want to pump one, simply remove the "clear plastic top" from the bottom hole on the bottom of the machine; if you only want to pump one, simply remove the "clear plastic top" from the bottom hole on the bottom of the machine; if you only want to pump one, simply remove the "clear plastic top" from the bottom hole on the bottom of the machine Simply remove the "clear plastic top" and replace it with a new one. Also, because the clear plastic is attached to the machine, it will not fall off. I believe the instructions in the box are out of date. I hope you find this information useful.

Selected User Reviews For Spectra - S2 Plus Electric Breast Milk Pump for Baby Feeding

A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Please accept my sincere apologies for the lengthy review - A breast pump, on the other hand, is an essential purchase for a breastfeeding mother - So, when it comes to this pump, I'm going to try to cover all the bases
5/5

br>br>As a mother who is currently breastfeeding her third child, I am approaching four years of nursing experience. br>br>I have always used Medela products in the past. A good pump makes all the difference in maintaining milk supply - I've struggled with low supply with one child, oversupply with another, and now a healthy spot on supply with my third. EVEN MORE SO IF YOU ARE A WORKING MOTHER. br>br>I HAD BEEN A FRIENDLY Medela PISA USER FOR NEARLY ALL OF MY FOUR YEARS AS A NURSE - I am, however, no longer one of them. I had just started hearing about the speCtra s2 taking the breastfeeding world by storm when I was pregnant with my third, but I decided to stick with old faithful and asked my insurance to provide me with another Medela - I wish I had done more homework back then, but hindsight is 20/20. All I heard for the first three months after my daughter's birth was how wonderful the S2 is - nursing friends, mom groups, breastfeeding groups, and even a couple of La Leche League meetings When I looked into it, I discovered that it was half the price of a PISA, so I decided to give it a shot. why not. My husband was hesitant to purchase yet another breast pump for me (I've tried SO MANY OTHERS - I'm exhausted). Lanisoh, Hygeia, Avent, and Ameda are some of the most well-known characters in Greek mythology. None of which I enjoyed or felt had completely depleted my breasts). I'll never use Medela again or try anything else now that I've got my Spectra - To explain why, consider the following: First and foremost, br>br> Let's take a look at the advantages of using a closed system pump. With my current nursling, I managed to sabotage two Medela PISAs. In less than three months, you will be able to - That can quickly add up to a significant amount of money. Milk gets into the tubes and into the motor, rendering them inoperable. Not to mention the challenge of preventing tubes from molding - not fun. Backflow is perfectly protected by the speCtra s2, and the flanges are designed to ensure that milk flows directly into the bottle rather than through the backflow protector. I initially purchased extra tubes, but I'm not sure why because I don't need them anymore because of Spectra. br>br>This is where it's at when it comes to comfort. After pumping with the PISA, I often felt as if my nipples had been put through a garbage disposal, despite the fact that I had never had any problems before. The speCtra s2 is unrivaled in terms of comfort. It mimics my baby's suckle, and I'm no longer wincing in pain during long pumping sessions. I'm not sure how they manage to make the suction so strong while also being so comfortable - However, they should be congratulated! A silicone insert is available for Spectra's flanges as an added bonus for comfort. When it comes to long pumping sessions, br>br> That is no longer the case. In half the time, the speCtra s2 depletes me - and we all know how valuable time is when there are small children running around! br>br>There are numerous suction and speed options, as well as a letdown button (which you can customize to meet your specific needs) that can switch you from your desired suction and speed to a quick light sickle to induce letdowns - Customizable as well. It also "vibrates" while you're pumping, which aids in stimulating quick multiple letdowns even more. Plus there's this: It remembers your pumping settings from the previous session and returns to them exactly as you left them. br>br>Finding the right settings for myself was a bit of a learning curve, but that's because with my PISA, I had no choice but "hard and fast" suction and speed, and there was no way to change them separately. Those days, thank goodness, are no longer with us - This is an issue that Spectra has also tackled. br>br>It's incredibly quiet, and it also includes a nightlight with two settings, so you don't have to worry about waking your baby if you're pumping near them during a nap or bedtime. Plus, you won't have to worry about your pump "singing you the song of its people"! (I'm not joking - it's true. ) With all that noise, who hasn't tried to figure out what their pump is saying?) Not with the speCtra, though; just a quiet purr. br>br>The only drawback is the lack of accessory options - You must purchase complete kits from Spectra rather than individual parts, or you must purchase aftermarket - which, in my opinion, work fine, but I'm a stickler for OEM parts. Finally, if you're looking for a unique way to express yourself, try using the words "innovative" and "paraphrase. " Customer service at Spectra is absolutely incredible. Customer service is staffed entirely by breastfeeding mothers, as far as I can tell. That's exactly what we require! They are excellent at Q. A Facebook session, and they'll gladly assist you in obtaining insurance coverage. According to what I've heard, they're expanding this year to reintroduce the S9 and make more products (including accessories) available at local retailers. br>br>To summarize, I believe that this pump is well worth the money. Even my husband, who was initially hesitant and is known for being "frugal," is pleased with the purchase. (Isn't it true that a happy wife leads to a happy life?) ) In every department, this is by far the best pump I've ever used. Mamas, look no further: speCtra has your pump.

As much as a pump can be loved, I adore this one! When I returned to work, I began using the Medela PISA
5/5

Several of the ladies in my nursing moms class recommended that I switch to the Spectra S2. I can honestly say that switching to the Spectra 2 was the best decision I've ever made. Unfortunately, my insurance had already been used on the Medela PISA, so I had to pay for this myself - Nonetheless, it is well worth the effort. I wish I'd known about this pump before I used my insurance on the other one, but I can't do anything about it now. I went from pumping four times a day to pumping four times a day with the Spectra. From 6 oz. to 8 oz. 9oz! Pumping is not something I enjoy doing. I'd prefer to breastfeed, but I need to pump because I've returned to work. The Medela PISA had a tugging/pulling sensation to it, and it could be quite painful at times. The Spectra feels more like a quivering suckle, as natural as a pump can be, in my opinion, and I adore it. I 100% recommend this over the Medela PISA (because that is the only pump I have personally tried and the only one to compare it to).

- br>br>1/10/18 Update - I've had this pump for 7 months and I still adore it as much as I did the first time I used it! Any pregnant woman with whom I've had the pleasure of discussing breastfeeding and pumping has received my recommendation for this pump. br>br>After going over some of the 1-star reviews, I wanted to point out a couple of things that I didn't mention in my first review.
1. I had a lot of Medela products (mostly bottles) because I had the misfortune of having to use a Medela PISA for the first 5 months of my baby's life.
2. I had already decided to invest in the second pump. I didn't want to have to buy all new bottles because of the new pump. There had to be a better way!
3. As a result, I went to Amazon and bought "wide to narrow neck adapters. " The Spectra could then be used to pump directly into my old Medela bottles, eliminating the need to purchase additional bottles. I was able to save a significant amount of cash as a result of this. This also means I've never used the Spectra bottles that came with the pump, so I can't vouch for their durability or dependability.

Customer service and quality are both terrible
3/5

Beware of the buyer! br>I was so taken with the spectra pump that I went out and bought a second one - S 1 - Since I only pump, I need something with a built-in battery so I can keep one at work. After a few months, it ceased to function. I called customer service, and they are terrible, terrible, terrible. Be aware that if you purchased your pump through Amazon, Groupon, Craigslist, or other third-party sites, they will not replace it even if it is still within the company's two-year quarantine period. They used to cover any broken pump if it broke within two years of purchase if you had the original receipt, but it appears that their policy has changed recently. The customer service representative was extremely rude and stated that they would not cover any pump purchased through Amazon if it was not purchased through I-D. serve. Please read all of their rules before purchasing this pump, as it is costly and you will be on your own if something goes wrong.

It works well, but it is prone to failure
3/5

It works great, and we bought two (one for work and one for home), but after two months, one of them stopped working, and Spectra isn't willing to help. They either bought a new power adapter (which didn't help) or a new pump. It's been two months! This is a common occurrence when searching online, and Spectra does not assist its users in this regard.
