They'd be better off black. They do, in fact, function. The self-adhesive wheel weights aren't compatible with my enduro dirt bike rims. Because of the higher speeds on the road (50 MPH), I wanted to static balance the wheels. The vibrations of the wheel lock system and unbalanced wheel were very noticeable without the balancing. The difference is immediately noticeable after these weights are installed over the spoke nipples (using a static wheel balancer). At high speeds, there will be no more abrasion. They also stayed put despite the fact that the ride was extremely technical, with roots, rocks, and wheel impacts. To increase security, apply a drop of blue thread lock to each setscrew. I've even gone to the trouble of photographing the wheel weight position after installation to see if they're causing a spoke to back out. They are flat screwed to the actual nipple.
In my 2018 KTM 500 exc-, I was able to balance both the front and rear wheels. f perfectly, using only one pack br>br>The only disappointment was that one of the weights had a stripped screw hole, causing the screw to never stop turning when turned against the spoke. But I still had enough weight for my wheels (with rim locks), which need about 5-pounds each. 7 oz. each to keep things in proportion. To balance, I used a combination of four of the larger weights in the front, and a smaller amount in the back. br>br>I've gone over 70 mph while riding through thick mud, torrential rain, and extremely violent rocky sections. They haven't given up yet!.
My KTM wheels were balanced with the help of a Harbor Freight Tools wheel balancer and these weights. Last week, I rode 1000 miles on it, and the new balanced wheels made a huge difference in the bike's comfort. Good quality weights. I tightened the set screws, and you should as well, or they will fall out.
It takes some time to get the wheels balanced with these, but the end result is well worth it. Anyone riding a dirtbike on the road, especially at highway speeds, will benefit from this product.
On my KTM 500EXC, it worked perfectly. The bike shimmied like a go-kart after being fitted with a Tubliss system. Speeds of over 60 mph are required for this dancer. These weights evened out the ride and made it nice and smooth.
I've been riding a KTM dual sport that is ride 90% off road with these on it. Above 50 meters, the bike became unrideable. Rimlocks were installed on the front and rear tires, which solved the balance issue completely and stayed in place for a few months. When I installed them, I used a thread retaining compound, which was probably unnecessary but gave me peace of mind.
These weights put an end to the bouncing that I was 100%. I used a rim lock to balance my wheels, which had knobby tires. At 40 mph, the bike began to bounce, and at 50 mph, it became extremely bad. It now rides so smoothly because of the weights. My KTM's spoke nipples were a perfect fit for the weights. I'm not sure why more people don't balance their wheels, but I'm going to start doing it whenever I replace a tire.
On the 500 exc, it was a breeze to balance both wheels. To get them to sit properly, I had to use the drill press and a 5/16 bit to remove a tiny amount of material. Otherwise, everything is fine; there is no longer any speed wobble. Very nice.
