Questions & Answers

A 110v Mig unit is what I'm looking for. What would a "Beginner" model look like with this? Longevity Migweld 140 and Eastwood 135 are two other options I'm considering. Thanks?

This is a fantastic model for a small scale. Stick welding is something I'm used to, with all of the frustrations that entails. I took it out of the box and fell in love with it after a few moments of getting used to it. I've only used flux core wire so far, and it's been incredibly simple. It's just a matter of getting ready and pulling the trigger. I've used it for a few small projects (although I believe the mig aspect allows for much smaller projects), and I'm currently working on a large, tow-able project. Grill is hidden behind. The material with which I'm working is 1. The trailer frame is made of 5" x 3" x 3/16" thick steel tubing, and this little machine is easily handling it and producing excellent penetration and welds. I'm not sure I'll ever use the old buzz box again!

When it comes to duty cycles, what are they?

This welder has a duty cycle . It's the amount of time a welder can work without getting too hot. High end industrial welders with 100% duty cycle can continue operation. The majority of welders for DIY people are 20%. The welder can weld for two minutes straight for every ten minutes without overheating.

Is the upgrade package included, or is it an add-on?

Hello Oscar, it comes with all of the upgrades, and you can immediately see the high quality of this welder when you take it out of the box. Get this welder, and you will not be disappointed.

Is this something that can be plugged into a standard wall outlet or does it have to be hard wired to 110 at the breaker panel?

Yes, it plugs into a standard wall outlet, with a maximum of 140 amps before switching to a 220 volt outlet.

Excellent Price

You should know that I open a lot of foreign-made garbage. From simple brass fittings to complicated electrical components such as televisions, there is something for everyone. You learn to distinguish between what is and is not junk. As an illustration: If you go to Lowes, Home Depot, Menards, or another similar big box store and look through their plumbing supplies, you'll find a lot of garbage. What could possibly go wrong with a brass fitting? Isn't it true that if it's made of brass, it should be suitable for a variety of applications? No. This is incorrect. Even for simple items like brass fittings, there is a significant difference between what you can get at Lowes or WallMart and what you can get at a plumbing supply store. This welder is EXACTLY LIKE THAT. br>br>As soon as you open the box, the differences between this welder and'similar' welders from local box stores become apparent. br>br>In every way, this Hobart welder is far more solidly built than a'similar' (name brand) welder I recently purchased at one of the big box stores. br>br>The packaging was solid two-fold. stapled together layers of thick cardboard My (name brand) did not come in simple, single-layered junk. br>In comparison to the (name brand), the outside shell is made of thicker, stronger steel. br>In comparison to my (name brand), the wire feed assembly is entirely made of metal. br>The Hobart had a 10' mig gun and a 10' clamp, whereas the (name brand) had a 6' and 10' clamp cable. br>The Hobart's components were simply more durable than the (name brand). This was especially noticeable. well . Basically, anywhere. br>The gas regulator was FAR superior to the one that came with the (name brand). The regulator was, in fact, Miller-branded, which clarifies my earlier statement. br>The manual was extremely well-written. br>Every aspect of this machine's "fit and finish" was excellent; Every component, from the mig gun to the unit's outer shell, appeared to be of the highest quality. notch. This was put together with no expense spared by Hobart/Miller. Even the packaging was well-made and clearly not scrimped on in order to save money. br>br>The regulator was causing me a lot of concern. I got a with the (name brand) welder I bought. sub- commonplace. This Hobart, on the other hand, came with a much better regulator. More than the 'Miller' logo on the brass impressed me. It was simply a far better product than anything I had previously seen. Having said that, there were a few things about which I was not pleased. Namely; br>br>The Hobart came with a'sample' spool of wire, which was a disappointment given that I already had wire. br>A wrench was required to adjust the wire spool, but a wing nut would have been preferable. br>A 10mm wrench and a 1/2" wrench are required for assembly of the Hobart. Make a standard for yourself and stick to it. br>br>However, the weld is the most important factor. The Hobart shone brightly in this situation. I'm not sure if it's because the Hobart's clamp was better, or because the tip was designed better, or what. Maybe it was just because I was happier with the ostensibly better equipment and thus did a better job, but the Hobart was easier to work with. The Hobart seemed to be more user-friendly than my (name brand) welder, whether I was pushing or pulling my beads. br>br>In general, if I had to recommend a MIG welder to a 'hobbyist,' or. I, the average user, am more like that. This welder is who I'm referring to. So far, everything has gone swimmingly.

After a couple of issues were resolved, he was an excellent welder
5/5

I'm going to give it five stars because I like it, despite the fact that I had and solved two significant issues with it:
1. The device is packaged in a nice retail box, similar to what you'd get if you bought it in a store. It has pictures of what's inside printed on it, as well as enough cardboard to protect it from scratches and keep the pieces together, but no padding beyond one or two layers of single-ply cardboard. ply corregated ply corregated ply corregated p The same box was insufficient to ship 65 pounds of metal across the country or across the county, and the first unit arrived with bent or displaced body panels and broken plastic in the chassis. I returned it, and they Fed-Exed it to me. I was also emailed by another person. Good- Thank you for your business.
2. The grooves in the metal wire feed drive didn't align with the wire, and the wire eventually worked out of the groove and stopped feeding. They diagnosed it as a warranty issue, and I told them I'd rather return the second unit than take time off work and drive 60 miles round trip. A visit to a warranty repair facility is required. The answer is simple: I received a new feed motor and spindle from Hobart, which I installed in under an hour. The error was corrected by the new unit. Most of the time, it's alignment, but there has to be a better way to align that wire with the slots. br>br>Anything bad that has happened other than those two things is due to my lack of experience and/or competence in the art of welding metals together. Read the other reviews from people who like the welder and gave it five stars, and pretend I wrote the same thing here: br>br>On the plus side, read the other reviews from people who like the welder and gave it five stars, and pretend I wrote the same thing here:

The welder is good, but the attention to detail and quality control are lacking
3/5

I did some research and found that this model received excellent reviews in the $300-$500 range. The range of prices is 700 dollars. My personal experience was lacking. The metal side panel had a large dent in it and didn't appear to have been well packed. Furthermore, my unit came with the incorrect feeder, so I had to manually splice a new connector to get it to work (which, I assume, voids the warranty). br>br>I also ordered a Hobart cylinder cart, which came with the wrong size screws (based on other comments, this appears to be a common occurrence). I had some of my own and was able to make it work, but I thought I was paying for the Hobart name and the supposed quality standard that comes with it, so I spent a little more money. My experience has left me wanting more, and I will most likely never buy another Hobart product after having problems with the two I tried.

Welder for the weekend! The majority of purchases people make are based on two factors: reliability and cost; with this Hobart welder, you get both
5/5

This is the welder for you if you need one for your home or garage. Because of its size and 110-volt plug, it's extremely adaptable and portable for any project. This welder comes highly recommended by me, and it's an even better deal when it's on sale on Amazon. Just a quick note: shipping companies aren't always gentle with your packages, but Amazon's excellent customer service handled the initial damage welder and had a replacement delivered quickly.

Awesome
5/5

What a shock! I just laid down the nicest weld of my life; I used to have an older 115v, off-brand unit that could never make a pass like this. LOVE it! In less than 30 minutes, we were up and running.

Excellent welder for the home
5/5

This is what I use it for around the house. I've welded things on my car and atvs, and it's always worked out. Certain outlets are blown every time I try to use them, while others are never blown, but they are very handy to have in my garage. Oh, and it's just like a hot glue gun to use.
