Product Description

By entering your model number, you can make sure that this fits.
Bearing Splitters from OTC have 'knife-like' edges that can be easily placed behind the part to secure a gripping surface, even when clearances are very tight.
Puller jaws grip the attachment's outer edge when used with an OTC 'Grip-O-Matic' puller.
Puller legs are threaded into the two tapped holes on the attachment when used with a Push-Puller.
Built with high-strength materials for long-term use in the most extreme conditions.
1/2 to 4-5/8 inch minimum/maximum spread; 4-3/8 inch distance between threaded inserts; 5/8-18 tapped holes in face of splitter halves; use with puller nos. 1035, 1036, 1037, 1038, and 927 are all numbers that can be used to make a number of different combinations.

Questions & Answers

How thick does this splitter have to be?

The two chromed body pieces (which travel on a 5/8-inch diameter shaft) The threaded rods (all 18 of them) are exactly one inch thick.

I'm curious as to where this was made. ?

This item is made in the United States, according to my information.

What is the size of the push/puller's threaded holes?

5/8"-

Is it forged or cast, and is it made in China?

So I went with the 1123 model, which is good for up to 4 5/8". I'm not sure, but based on how it appears, I'd say cast. It's a savagely powerful weapon. The threaded rods are the weakest link in the chain. My own had bowed. However, I must state that I used a ten-ton puller on it, and something had to give; in my case, the bearing did not, so instead of releasing all that energy, it was better. It's possible that's on purpose. In terms of production location. As far as I can tell, it's made in the United States of America with parts sourced from all over the world. I don't have a clue what that means. OTC is something I'd buy again. I conducted extensive research and made numerous phone calls. It was a good deal for the money, in my opinion. Of course, I can only speak for the model I received, and some of these reviews are for "similar" items that may or may not be the same. Best of luck!

UPDATED: The item was exactly as described, and it arrived quickly
3/5

There are other applications for it. The item was exactly as described, and it arrived quickly. Other than bearings, it has other uses. br>br> It was used as a puller to remove a stuck intermediate axle shaft from the transmission. It took about 90 seconds and cost a third of what the GM tool did. br>br>UPDATE: br>br> The bolts bent when they were used to remove a stuck seal that the puller jaws couldn't get into, and it was difficult to get them out to replace them.

I was able to complete two tasks, but the included hardware was insufficient
3/5

This tool has completed two jobs for me, and it is the only type of tool capable of performing these tasks well. It's usually a 5-star experience when a specialized tool does exactly what I need. br>br>However, I docked two stars due to the tool's inferior hardware. br>br>The first thing to know about this tool is the hardware size: all of the threaded rods, the four included nuts, and the two drilled holes are 5/8" diameter with 18 threads per inch, commonly referred to as 5/8-inch threads. For 5/8", this is referred to as "fine pitch. " This hardware will not be available at your local home center or hardware store. If they have anything in 5/8s, it will be "coarse" pitch, which is 5/8-inch pitch. It'll be a waste of time. Additional nuts and threaded rods for this tool must be obtained from a fastener specialist. br>br>You'll want to go ahead and order custom hardware because the four nuts that come with it are of poor quality. One of the four nuts was incorrectly drilled and threaded, allowing it to slide on and off the threaded rod. One star is deducted. br>br>While this tool can be used with just the two threaded rods that come with it for some jobs, it is also set up to accept another pair of rods for pressing [the two 5/8 dia holes you see in the photo]. You'll have to order those rods separately because the holes are tapped for 5/8-inch bolts. 18 fine pitch rod is something you won't find in your typical home center or hardware store. br>br>I ordered all new fasteners and threaded rods in the lengths I needed from a very helpful website you might have heard of that specializes in hard to find hardware and tools. I'll give you a hint as to where my parts came from: "Mick Master [three-letter word for car]"br>br>Now, for the two jobs I've completed thus far: br>br>First, I removed an Audi wheel hub's inner bearing race. I used a Harbor Freight shop press to complete this project. In that situation, the tool performed admirably. The second job presented a greater challenge. br>br> A PTO clutch assembly seized on the PTO input shaft of a three-point tractor tiller that I had. I believe the part had been stuck there for a long time. I started working on this project after purchasing additional threaded press rods and higher-quality nuts. While torqueing the press rods that I had purchased, I noticed that the two threaded rods included in the package were bending and flexing. Rather than buying the two extra threaded rods, I should have replaced the ones that came with the tool. br>br>Once again, minus one star for not including four rods in the first place, and for sending floppy/bendy rods in place of the two that are included. br>br>Overall, this tool is a good place to start, but extra 5/8-inch drill bits are recommended. 18 nuts, as well as a few sets of high-strength 5/8-inch bolts A reputable supplier has 18" threaded rods in various lengths.

It's only halfway effective
3/5

When these arrived today (I love free next day delivery), I was ecstatic because it meant I could finally remove and replace the carrier bearings on my Dana 44HD differential. Using my Milwaukee 2763-A, I was able to easily remove the Pinion bearing. Impact Wrench, M18 1/2", 22 M18 1/2" There is a lot of power. The first of two carrier bearings was next on my list. It took everything I had to persuade the bearing to "split" from the trunnion shaft, but it did eventually with the help of a 2. As a punch, you'll need a 5 pound single jack and an air impact socket. It was a different story to remove the bearing splitter. The nuts were splintering off metal shavings as they turned against the clamp body, which I noticed while torqueing them down. I also noticed that the threaded shafts had lost a significant number of threads after removing them. Isn't it tool steel? I was able to completely remove the nuts from the shaft and clean up the shredded metal from the now mushroomed base, but I couldn't thread the nuts all the way down the shaft. I got the splitter back on the opposite trunnion and was just about able to separate the bearing from the base when the splitter finally gave out. Was it successful in completing the task? Kinda. Is it possible that I'll be able to use it once more? I didn't intend to ever need one again, but I guess I expected my money to go a little further than a single use, so I cut the old threaded rod in half and bought new threaded shafts and nuts. I don't intend to ever need one again, but I guess I expected my money to go a little further than a single use. For this job, I would not recommend this tool.

Holding the bearing assembly and removing the race is a breeze with this tool
5/5

This tool provided me with a lot of satisfaction: Bearing Splitter (1124) from OTC 1/2" to 5" in diameter Set it on top of a couple of 4x4 blocks to support and separate the typical hub-and-spoke setup. Bearing assembly made simple.

The tool is nice, but it is missing a nut and the threads are damaged
3/5

Quality tools are produced by Otc. The oem packaging was shattered on this one, and one of the nuts was missing. Threads had also been harmed in some way. I used a thread file to clean them up, and they now work as expected. All that was required was the purchase of a missing nut.

This is an excellent professional tool
5/5

Do you want to do some pressing? It's all over now. It's primarily used for 4 runner front hubs, but it can be used for a variety of other purposes. This is an excellent tool.

I am extremely happy
5/5

Excellent craftsmanship. When using this with a press, strong bolts are required. There will be no bending like the cheap ones from a well-known Northern Tool Company. Arrived on time. Excellent vendor.
