These mats are designed to protect wood floors, and they do that job very well. This book doesn't have a lot of padding, however. A very low pile carpet covers the stop, and a spiked rubber liner forms the back of the stop. Despite its ability to grip carpet, I found that the spikes just fattened out on hardwood or left marks on my VR room's foam flooring. In the case that you will be leaving your wheel in one place for quite some time, I recommend that you provide a dedicated location If I were getting a rug for occasional use, I would just get a little thicker.
In my opinion, this mat would be great as long as you have carpet.
