The engine is a 3. 7-liter V6 (front-wheel drive). As a prospective purchaser, I posed a number of questions regarding the effectiveness of this tool with regards to the above mentioned vehicle- The answer to my question was yes as well as no. The following facts have been discovered 1.
The answer is yes In order to use this tool, you must install the engine described above . The Ford engine powering this one can be found in a wide range of Ford and Mazda vehicles from 2008 to the present. The tool must be used with the latest version of 2015 (with some minor differences). When using the tool to work on engines, it holds the CAMs in place properly It is also imperative to use caution when applying force to the crank, as doing so could cause the tools to slip (very slightly) sufficiently to cause problems during the installation of 1. 2. 3. If you look at the tools, you can immediately see a slip has occurred because their heads are not fully on the handles. It is easier to correct but the crank has to reverse force as a result In this case, the CAMS will move very slightly, and the tools will return to their original positions. The fourth point. It is necessary to position the tools in the proper order A proper alignment of the CAMS has been achieved. Five point five. Counting up the links between timing marks is highly recommended when installing timer chains to ensure that they are correctly positioned. It was only due to the minor slippage described above that this tool still didn't receive a perfect rating of 5 stars. Considering the age of the engine (100,000+ miles), this could be caused by slight wear and tear on the cams.
I am completely satisfied with this tool. While the machined openings are probably a little too wide, so you can fit the tool down onto the cams, you don't have to force them into place. They naturally slide into place with just a bit of extra room leftover as long as you're at tDC. It still doesn't matter that there is a tiny bit of slop. As long as it gets the timing right, it stays there, so there's no problems.
The people who say the openings are too wide, meaning the cams will slip out when you remove the cam bolts, are complete morons. You HAVE to use an extra wrench on the cam flats next to the tool to help hold it in place while removing and installing the cam bolts while using this tool. This tool cannot hold high torque, it is only intended to hold the cams during service. I give this tool a five out of five. As far as I can tell, there are no cons to this. I'm sure glad it's less than the $225 I was quoted from my Mac guy.
The EcoBoost 5 is now available. As indicated in the factory service manual (303-) this tool is identified by its part number. For my 2011 Ford Flex 3, I bought the following part number 1248. A five EcoBoost tool arrived just in time for me to start disassembling the car after same day delivery. This equipment came with a cool case, and the camshaft holders appear to be well made and fit well. I was very pleased with the value of the product and the speed of delivery. It worked for my Ford Flex 3 (2011). The EcoBoost 5 has been released.
As part of my job duties, I use the OTC tool for this task, and I have worked for a Ford dealership in the past. Normally, I do at least one 3 per day, but lately I've been unable to do it. When I discovered I had a 5L Duratec water pump in my driveway, I ordered this and found it to be as effective as my Ford and OTC.
It is a welcome substitution for Ford's OE toolkit because it comes with much more for a fraction of the cost. Getting fast shipping for extra cost and getting it at the same time we'd gotten it for free was the only negative aspect of our experience. Although Amazon did refund the shipping fee, we had paid for fast shipping for a reason and were disappointed by the failure to fulfill that.
At 110k miles on my EB I got the infamous timing chain rattle, so this spring I will be replacing timing chains, cam phasers, tensioner, water pump, and everything else I can think of. The auto parts store will have to do it again on my 200k so I might as well purchase a tool rather than borrow some crappy piece of crap.
In return for putting its own self at risk. I borrowed this tool for the same reason why I had purchased it in the first place. Since it has been so easy to find, no one has complained about fitment.
I changed the water pump and timing on a Ford Edge 2007 and this tool was essential.
