You must be very careful when using this adapter to make sure that the pad is completely locked into It is recommended that you push up on the release mechanism, otherwise the mechanism may not be fully engaged and (as happened to me) the pad may come off the adapter with a giant scratch and chip. Hopefully, I will spend a lot of time with it on a piece of sheet metal before using it again on my plane.
Since I have had it on my polisher for two years, the pad has endured a lot and continues to perform. The reluctance to use it frequently makes me use it frequently. In the past, I have dropped my buffer a couple of times and it has stood Furthermore, having the ability to use 3M double sided pads makes waxing and applying compounds easy. I would highly recommend this product. It is an item I would buy again in a heartbeat.
A fairy tale's magic is at work on this adapter. There was no problem fitting it on my DeWalt polisher. The reason I bought this adapter was because I found a sale on a double side 3M Ultrafine pad, but I did not realize that I would need this adapter to use the pad in my machine. It took me a long time to decide to pay the amount for this adapter, but I must say it is 100% worth it. For those who think that with this adapter you can't use the pad flat instead of at an angle of 10 O clock, wrong, you can use the pad flat down in order to get an even shine. One of the best qualities is that a double side pad can be used with the medium cutting compound on one side and the ultrafine cutting compound on the other side, making it both economical and convenient.
3M's website led me to believe that this quick connect would work with the 05717 Hookit Backup Pad, but the two don't connect. And now I see the description on the back up pad says to tighten the backup directly into the "Use adapters at your own risk. ". The return period has ended, so I do not have the option of returning both. They were purchased in winter so I could prepare for working on my boat in the spring, but work was not possible.
who has detailed a paint job with a rotary polisher knows how tedious it can be to switch out pads that had Velcro backing, even though velcro was an innovation back when cloth bonnets dominated. With the 3M quick release and their pad system, polishers have never been so much fun. It's a device that you won't be disappointed with.
While I don't care much about the quick change feature, I believe that the 3M pads would be hard to beat for rotary tools. A very high quality video with perfect balance and even distribution. These things are only available if you have this device. Although disappointingly fragile, it still is a good product. It takes one slight ding, wrench turn, or anything of that nature, and it jams, and the part.
Adding these to your buffing and polishing arsenal will help you perform your duties more efficiently. It is invaluable to even save time alone. It is crucial that you unplug the device in order to switch pads correctly and safely. Replace and tighten the NUT AFTER loosening the RETAINING NUT, switching the pads, and tightening it again. DISCONNECT THE UNIT, and then plug it back in. Aiming at the trigger is impossible with this unit because SQUEEZE, FLIP and RELEASE is possible without even getting near the trigger.
Thank you 3M for this great purchase.
