The 520900 element works on all suburban water heaters it is the only element designed for suburban water heaters, it replaced the 520789 in North America.
There is definitely a need for the gasket. The goal is to not have a leak, so sealant or teflon tape might be a good choice. Using the previous method, there is the possibility of leaks, but you have to redrain the tank before you can place a gasket.

The bacon on my plate is now cold. The heating element fits Dometic models RM2862 and RM2863. As I attempted to remove the old tube, part of it broke off inside. I was lucky enough to discover an unused second tube in my unit for the element to be installed You can see some photos of the element installed in the secondary tube below, as well as what the old one looked like. The primary tube blew out so badly the tube is warped, and this is what prevented the element from being reinstalled.
I had to replace these twice because they were so difficult to remove. In order to put them on and take them off, you have to purchase a hollow wrench.
The heating element on my furnace stopped working after about 3 trips after I replaced it in May. Now it is in the middle of July, and it is the last time I will use In order to operate it, I have to either replace it again or use propane instead. There is no logical explanation for why it stopped.
The rod is working just fine.
Don't apply power until the water in the tank is full.
It was very easy to install the socket that Amazon had. I find it to be very useful.
