The factory arms on my Tahoe were starting to fade, so I decided to replace them. The factory arm's sprayer sprays water across the windshield at a slight downward angle and in a nice, even fan. The sprayer on this Dorman unit simply sprays water into the wiper's center - It's a clear distinction that must be addressed. Furthermore, the part where the wiper blade mounts is not perfectly angled like the factory arm, causing the wiper blade to sit at an unattractive angle when parked. Furthermore, the metal is clearly not as strong as it was when it was manufactured.
On the passenger side of my 2003 GMC truck, the Dorman 42694 wiper arm performs admirably. The original wiper spring bracket had broken and was no longer able to press against the windshield. The most difficult part was removing it, but it was not a problem. The old one was easily removed with a small amount of penetrating oil and moderate hand force. I swapped out the old wiper blade for the new one. The new arm was then pressed into place on the shaft, and the nut was tightened. Because the spray nozzle is built into the arm body of the 42694, a small plug must be pressed into a hose fitting. The old wiper worked perfectly with the new arm. The washer did not initially spray, but after about one minute, both wipers were spraying equally. The penetrating oil's lingering odor vanished the next day.
It's simple to put together (if you're mechanically inclined), and it appears to be well-made and meets OEM specifications. I purchased from Amazon to save money over buying from a chain store, and I am happy with my purchase! Always double-check the part number on a chain store or manufacturer website to make sure you're getting exactly what you ordered and that it's the right part for your vehicle.
I've had it on for a week and haven't had any issues with it; installation was straightforward, but removing the old arm was difficult and necessitated the use of some WD-40. 40, but it only took a minute to install the new arm.
They work and are inexpensive, but the spray is poor, and the hose with the fitting was routed through the bolt hole for some reason. So you'll have to pry the hose away from the fitting in order to reroute it through the bolt hole. One of the hoses ripped as a result of this.
On my 2006 Silverado 2500HD, I used this to replace the passenger side wiper arm. It's functional and comes with a hinge, which is a plus. The angle at which the blade rests against the windshield differs from that of the OEM, but it does not appear to affect functionality.
Although the sprayer is a little off, you can't go wrong for the price. To add to that, unlike the factory wiper arm, this one has a lock out position that allows you to raise it and keep it there.
This product was as good as new when I installed it, and it only took me about 5 minutes to complete. br>Dorman makes excellent products, and I always purchase from them when I have the opportunity.
