It's not actually a hook. While pulling the dimmer switch towards you, make sure it is perfectly aligned with the dimmer switch rod. It needs to be a perfect fit in the switch. And he does nothing but sit. When you replace the bezel cover that you removed to begin working on it, it will stay in place.

Is there any advice on how to install one in a first-generation S10?

I'm about to replace one of these myself, and my plan was to loosen the switch on the column, allowing for a larger gap between the rod and the turn/dimmer switch.
