Is it necessary for me to program this into my vehicle?

There is no need for programming, but a relearn procedure is required. If there are no other issues, the vehicle will relearn on its own, which takes about 2 hours. After 3 weeks of normal driving, you will be able to resume your normal routine. Because the engine computer relearns on its own, you can drive it normally and not notice anything most of the time.
