To check if the fuse/connection had been tripped on my 2004 Suburban, I started by checking the fuses. I could still use the remote to play the horn, but when I pressed the steering wheel button, it wouldn't work. The plastic retainer clip sometimes breaks, as I found out when I did a little internet searching. Thus, I removed the airbag, disconnected the battery (letting the airbag drain for 15 minutes or so), and reconnected the battery. Upon noticing that the clip had broken, I found that it would be cheaper to replace this rather than buying the more expensive A mechanism that uses springs. My order for this replacement was completed as soon as I put everything back together. A few days later, this connector arrived and I once again removed the airbag and replaced it. The system has now returned to normal operation. (Includes the wait for the airbag to deflate prior to work being completed). The whole job took less than 30 minutes. Replacing the old one is very straightforward.
A keyway or something that would prevent these items from being installed upside down would certainly make them 5 stars. Repairs that are cheap, quick, and fast. and button lights work again (they were both broken previously).
It was installed on my 2004 Chevy Silverado to replace the horn contact assembly damage caused by a broken plastic clip. I was able to install it easily, and it looks and works just like the original. Ensure that your holes are positioned properly for the release holes of the air bags.
You only have to be cautious with the airbag when installing. We got the job done and everything seems to be working fine.
Some people will tell you not to purchase Dorman products. I don't understand that. It's been as long as I can remember that I have used Dorman replacement parts. Every installation of these replacement parts is a perfect match to the original and performs like it did when it was My recent purchase, a horn button kit, was the first one out of all those I have bought water pumps, fan clutches, DEF heaters, etc. I have never had a problem, I have always been able to fit perfectly. Dorman, thanks for your help!.
Having just installed it, my horn is working properly once more. Cleaning the copper contacts on the steering column will benefit to you. Use a wire brush or light sandpaper to do so. The job did not take more than 10 minutes.
I hear my horn humming all the time now when It is easy to install, just be sure to disconnect the battery before you begin.
