Alternative to replacing the entire alternator that is both good and cheap

To make it fit, it will need to be sanded. Other than that, everything is fine. My 99 Passat 1 was in need of a quick fix. Valeo alternator with a torque rating of 8 tonnes.

These brushes are too big to be OEM replacements for the 90amp Valeo alternator I was replacing on a 2001 VW Jetta Wagon, but with some careful filing, they fit perfectly

One star deducted because they aren't a perfect fit, but with a little time and effort, I was able to fix the alt for only $7, compared to $70 for a reman or $140 for a new one. Even if the brushes aren't the issue, it's worth a shot at this price before replacing a voltage regulator or purchasing a new unit, in my opinion.
