A short or long wire is connected to the sending unit? How far do I have to go from sender to gauge?

It seems there is no wire with mine, therefore, you will also have to provide one. In fact, you can get as far as you want if you have some spare wire and a couple of connectors lying Additionally, if there isn't a 1/8" hole on the cylinder head, you may have to drill and tap it.
