Gasket other than the one included in the water pump kit was purchased separately. For me, the rubberized strip along a metal gasket is preferable. This would last longer and seal better, in my opinion. Everything seems to be going well so far.

In essence, this was exactly the same seal as the OEM one I removed a few months ago

In other words, this was the same OEM gasket that I removed when changing out I'm sure the cardboard model that came with the AC Delco pump would have been ok, but this version was clearly better. Exactly what I was looking for. I heard a boom bang.

If you are replacing the 3. you will need this. There are 6 water pumps! If you are replacing your GM 3 water pump, it is imperative that you get this part. It's 6 for 6! Do not waste time with the paper gasket that most of your pumps come with, instead, go with the steel gasket that will serve you the best.
