I have an older Suburban that acts up now and then. I replaced its fuel pump recently with one I bought from an auto parts store. It seemed to be fine, but I learned otherwise. After a month, I noticed some unusual misfire patterns and intermittent starting problems which I did not initially attribute to a fuel pump problem, believing that the new pump could not be the cause. After chasing down several plausible but ultimately incorrect explanations for the intermittent starting and drivability problems (which at the time did not seem typical for a faulty fuel pump, but in retrospect were entirely the fault of the non-functional Now that it is running great again, I regret the wasted time and frustration resulting from my rash decision to buy a cheeper pump the first time around. **And sometimes the non-optional ones can end up being the best! Usually OEM parts don't fail, but when they don't, it's a real pain - especially in this case where another removal of the fuel tank was required. On this one, I shouldn't have taken the "cheaper" route since it ended up costing me time, frustration, and rework in the end. That is the kind of car repair lesson everyone is familiar with, and I got a loud and clear reminder.
I'm not sure what to conclude about pump strainers. They work fine, but what can you really say about them? The gas tank looks like it is one, the gas tank fits perfectly, and it probably looks okay inside.
Like a glove, the fit was perfect.
The garment fits perfectly.
