If an aftermarket roller rocker or nut is self aligning, how do you know that it is?

It should be possible to guide the roller and keep it on the rocker with something on the roller tip. you are talking about a pedestal type rocker, if you are unable to rotate the rocker side to side when it is installed, the rocker stays in alignment.

Is there a specific length of push rods I must use when using these?

There is no change in the length of the pushrods required by guide plates

How do you use these guide plates? Do they use the regular 5/16 bolts and ?

The fit was perfect, and the hardware fit perfectly

In place of the heads that came with the original guides, these were intended to replace them. The new parts fit perfectly, and I was able to use the hardware I had previously used. Thanks to the new pushrods and guide, I should be able to drive my hot rod truck for many many miles.
