This was purchased to repair my father's Silverado 2500 6 from the year 2002. I found a broken compressor belt and a non-turning tension pulley while troubleshooting a lack of cold air conditioning. This kit came with a high-quality belt and a tension pulley that looked exactly like the original, both of which were boxed and labeled with genuine GM markings. br>br>The installation went much more smoothly than I had anticipated. The main belt tensioner, as well as the five shield and two pulley bolts, are all 15mm in diameter. The new pulley requires a 3/8 ratchet or breaker bar, and the intake plumbing requires a flat tip screwdriver; it doesn't get any easier than that. I didn't even have to lift the truck to gain access. To be safe, I used a small amount of blue locktite on the pulley bolts. Overall, fixing an a/c problem that my father had for over a year took about 30 minutes and cost less than $60. If you have any doubts about the condition of your tensioner pulley, I strongly advise you to replace it. My age at the time was seventeen. It just makes sense to do it while you're under the truck because the bearing was so worn that the pulley seized and the belt broke. Because the belt was already broken in my case, it was simple to remove and inspect it before deciding to order a replacement. Overall, I would recommend this kit. br>br> In fact, I have an '02 2500HD and an '09 Suburban 2500 that will almost certainly get the same treatment before they abandon me in the summer heat of Georgia without air conditioning.
My GMC Sierra 5 is an 01 model. I recently recharged my a/c and it blew consistent 50 degree air, but I was embarrassed to turn it on and use it because of the horrible screeching noises it made while it was on. When I last changed my oil, I noticed my accessory belt was cracked, so I said I decided to replace the tensioner and belt in one fell swoop. I thought my compressor was on its way out because of the noise it was making, but after installing this tensioner and belt, there is no more noise, and I noticed that the old tensioner had a lot of side to side and in and out slop in it, so it very well could have never been replaced, and the tensioner was most likely the only issue. br>br>The new tensioner is snug all the way around and rolls smoothly. The quality of the belt is exceptional. Now that I have cold, quiet air, I am quite content.
It's an AC Delco, so you know it'll be good. My old one was soaked when my water pump exploded, and because the tensioner was right below it, it started screaming everywhere I went. My 2003 Tahoe 5 was able to start because of this part. The number 3 has returned to its previous state. Two bolts are all that is required. You'll need to undo the serpentine belt to replace the accessory belt, which was a breeze once I removed the fan shroud and bottom splash guard (you could probably get away with changing it without them, but I hate working in cramped spaces).
We have a 2001 Chevy 1500 5 and the belt and pulley parts fit perfectly. It took about an hour to replace 3 z71 trucks. I was having issues with a loud squeaking noise coming from the engine compartment. The squeaking is gone now that the belt and pulley have been replaced, and the engine (which has 198k miles on it) sounds almost new. Spray water on a noisy or squeaking belt to see if it goes away; if it does, it's most likely a bad belt. While you're at it, replace the tension pulley as well.
OEM is the way to go. Only OEM parts are installed on my vehicles, and I am a firm believer in doing so. I've been wrenching for a long time and have learned the hard way that cheap parts almost always cost more in the long run. This kit's price is unbeatable, especially considering the fact that it ships the same day. The installation was flawless, and the parts were equal to or better than those already installed on the truck.
On my 1999 GMC Sierra 5, it's an exact match. 3L. Here are a few pointers on how to set up your system. To make access easier, remove the front splash guard. The main belt must be removed from the crankshaft pulley first, and then the belt must be installed on the AC pulley. The tensioner bolts were tightened with a 15mm socket and a short extension.
Genuine ACDelco parts for my Silverado are my favorites because they are dependable. My fleet mechanic experience taught me that dealer parts are superior, and my retail automotive experience taught me that the best way to avoid constant callbacks on a vehicle is to replace that part with an ACDelco part. br>br>Unfortunately, I'll have to return this part because my pickup was recently in a collision, and I'm not sure if insurance will even repair it. br>br>However, I may return for another Silverado in the future.
After watching a video, 20 minutes were spent removing the broken one and 10 minutes replacing it. Perfect. I'd be air-conditioned all the way across America and back for a fraction of the price the garage would have charged me. With the money I saved DIY, my wife and I will be able to have steak dinners 45 times.
