Thought it was the hose at first, but after replacing it, it still leaked. The leak was fixed after replacing the thermostat housing with this one, and everything pressure tested out fine. I was concerned about the thermostat quality, but I used it anyway. I am pleased to report that it is operating as intended. When reading negative reviews, keep in mind that not everyone knows what they're doing when it comes to fixing their car, and that some "complaints" may be the result of the writer's own installation errors.
It was a perfect fit for my WJ4 from 2004. There have been no leaks in the last seven years. Keep an eye out for the housing recess that is supposed to line up with the pressure relief. Although the gasket and housing are keyed for proper alignment, I had to rotate the keyed gasket on the thermostat to get it to line up correctly. The alignment was off by a full 180 degrees when the previous owner installed the one I replaced, pinning the pressure relief closed, and they had cut the key off the gasket so it would fit. I'll keep an eye on it because there have been some negative reviews about the thermostat. I'll update the review if it fails within the next two years. ***UPDATE*** 08. 2020br>br>***UPDATE*** 08. 2020br>br>***UPDATE*** 08. 2020br 2021 - The door is still open and closing at 195 degrees Fahrenheit, just as it should be. There is no problem, and there is no cause for concern.
The only saving grace was that Amazon sent me a replacement because the thermostat froze and either remained open or closed for 6 months, causing my Jeep to overheat. So I had to pay for the housing and thermostat, as well as 2 gallons of antifreeze and a free tow from AAA towing. I'm debating whether or not I should put this one in. This was the only option Amazon offered because I couldn't return it and get a refund.
Stay immersed in a pot of water on the stove, slowly heating it with a thermometer. At 195, it starts to crack open, and by 205, it's completely open. Silicone o-rings with a high tensile strength a ring that is a part of the t-sequence stat. When installing it, double-check that it is fully seated in the housing. o-status Both rings are keyed to ensure proper orientation. To mess this up, you'd need to be a maroon. This is a screaming deal.
I haven't installed it yet, but it appears to be of good quality. br>br>Installation is not straightforward; you'll need a few tools to remove tornillos and abrazaderas. br>br>Dorman has a good reputation, and I'm hoping that this time isn't an exception.
Perfect fit and better than the oem replacement, which had only been on for a year. The truck cools perfectly and does not leak like the OEM one did when it was removed. The flange had a kink in it. Time will tell if this one performs similarly to the previous one, but it did replace the water pump at the same time with a metal impeller version.
On my Dakota, it works perfectly. If you have an overheating problem afterward, you most likely did not bleed the air out of your system. If you don't know how to work on cars, don't do it.
Now I have to tow my car back to the shop and replace the old one. The housing, on the other hand, is excellent. This isn't the first time this has happened to me! Keep a safe distance from this thermostat!.
