When they arrived and I tried to install them, I discovered that they were NOT THE RIGHT PARTS. Amazon was completely incorrect. Then, after notifying Amazon of the issue and setting up a return authorization, I discover that it will cost me more than $ 8. 00 to return parts that were originally defective. br>That's not like Amazon, with whom I've done business for years.
In a pinch, I needed cables. They were not correct, and I had to cut the aluminum feed tubing on the car to get them to work. br>Amazon said they were correct. br>They were not correct, and I had to cut the aluminum feed tubing on the car to get them to work. PITA in its totality br>The ends of the caliper brackets do not fit snugly. br>Way too much time has passed. To prevent them from dragging, I had to zip tie them to the undercarriage. br>I'm not sure if Amazon or Dorman classified them incorrectly. br>NOTbr>For the 2011 (MKVI) Volkswagen Jetta or Sportwagen.
It's often pointless to write a review before the item has been used, but I have the impression that this one will last the entire life of the car. br>I've had it in for at least 6 months and it's still holding tight; in fact, I don't recall making any additional adjustments after installation. so. Fine, but I'll make a point of returning if it fails for no apparent reason.
This was purchased to replace one that I had purchased on Amazon. The other brand's brake caliper end had a collar crimped on it, which pulled through the second day after installation. With a ball end, the Dormant cable is nearly identical to the factory cable. It was simple to install and has been on my car for more than a month with no problems.
THEN they informed me that I wouldn't be able to install the cables unless I ordered new grommets, clips, and hooks, which would cost about $100! br>br> The new cables, regardless of whether they're from VW, Dorman, or Gemo. have a thicker rubber cable that won't fit in the original clips, according to them. Yes, they're fatter, but the part of the cable that feeds through the aluminum tubes into the car still fits perfectly. br>br>I called BS on them, which led me to order the Dormans online. br>br>Yes, they're fatter, but the part of the cable that feeds through the aluminum tubes into the car still fits perfectly. br>br> All you have to do is gently pry off your existing clips and bend them slightly with pliers, and they'll pop right back on. It's a minor annoyance, but it's far preferable to paying $130 for parts you don't require. br>br>I just followed the instructions on YouTube and finished both cables in about 45 minutes. The only reason I gave them four stars is that only time will tell how well they do. But, after a week, everything appears to be in order.
The black housing on these cables is larger in diameter than the OEM emergency brake cables on the Jetta MK4. This made reattaching the new cable to the OEM frame-mounted cable bracket a difficult task. This job could have been completed in less than 30 minutes if it had been done otherwise. minutes.
My emergency brakes, as well as my regular rear brakes, are now in excellent working order. The hydraulic piston's self-adjustment does not work without proper emergency brake movement. They do now.
The length was correct, but the exterior diameter was larger than the original, making installation more difficult and necessitating the expansion of the cable retainers to accommodate the larger cable housing. The metal 'keeper ring' was also too wide to fit into the original retainer, so it had to be cut down. It's doable, but it's not a perfect fit.
