As with other after market generic master cylinders, this part is also available on Amazon. It is not an OEM Delco part that was originally manufactured. Interestingly, it is a cheap Chinese made generic model with a leaky cap and low-quality steel cover that can be bought elsewhere for 25 cents to $3. There are generic brands that cost 30% less than the OEM Delco part
Apparently, the OEM Delco part is no longer available.
It was a huge oversight! I have paint all over my motor compartment because this thing makes a mess. It is easy to slip the bail over the cover with two fingers because the cover seal is ineffective. When your condom is installed, do yourself a favor and slip it over it.
The body of the master cylinder does not appear to be anticorrosion treated. Within days of installation, it will be covered in surface rust. Does not affect the function of the device.
Works with a Chevy, but you have to adjust the length of your rod that goes into the mount. For good braking, bench bleed followed by braking system bled.
This could have been an old master cylinder that was gummed up and leaking down the back of the motor. This item was purchased and mounted to the truck. The unit was bled, then the individual brakes were bled as well. During the past 20 years, I have only been able to drive that truck, so I can't recall its brakes ever working this smoothly, except maybe when my dad bought it new in 1973.
This product was a great addition to my 1971 C10 pickup truck.
I have yet to give an honest review of this product since I am installing it on a street rod I am building right now. It is all plumbed up and I have a really good brake pedal. I will be able to judge its effectiveness as soon as the project has been completed!.
I was surprised to find it unpainted, but it's nothing I couldn't fix with some gloss black spray paint. In my previous purchase last year there was a manufacturing pit in the bore that turned into a slow leak, so I'm still hoping that this one will be spared.
