Questions & Answers

It is only necessary to take the gear that will fit inside. Do you sell just the gear? Where can I order it?

The motor might fail in the future if it gets strained due to a problem with the gear. However, I would replace the unit if I knew where to order just the gear. There is no wear and tear on the It will be useful for parts if you keep the old one.

Are you aware of whether or not this will work with a 1989 Southwind with Kwikee 2 steps?

It is likely that all electric steps use the same control type. Take a look at your motor (steps) and compare it to the image on Kwikee to see if they look alike. I think you will be fine if that's the case. Nevertheless, it is recommended that you contact Southwind for confirmation. Check out the bolt pattern, and plug it in for electricity. It is easy to change them.

A 2007 Dolphin motorhome with ladder steps is available for sale. Do you think this will work? Other than this, are there any other steps that are necessary?

You should be able to use this if it has Kwikee steps. The motor should be the only part you need to replace if the other parts are fine.

The motor is the same as the AM Equipment 214-W ?

I say yes!

You will need to completely disassemble your gearcase and step motor
5/5

This gives you a clear idea of what is damaged. There is a high rate of multiple failures. Seeing these types of repairs often is my job as a RV technician. Here are a few details that will be of assistance. I used this motor on a customer's Kwikee step and it worked fine. In my case, there was a problem with my step, because it kept running after fully retracting until you disconnected the power wire. Thus, I had two problems If you wish to use this motor with your kwikee step, then please ensure that it is the right motor. By using the information from the step sticker located beneath the step on the gearcase base, you may be able to obtain a parts diagram for your step. Step motors for pre-imgl gear cases don't operate the same way. These are some of the newer models like this (impl- The spur gear on this motor shaft is prone to breaking a tooth if it is integrated into the motor shaft with the gear) Gearcases are only available when purchasing the gears (Lippert Components 379160 Gear/Linkage *This gearcase part number is for mine with There may be differences between yours and mine if it has There is no such motor with this one. Here's an FYI Either or both of these causes can lead to the same damage not keeping ALL of the pivot points lubricated will cause the original damage. Went to work but didn't make it I recommend spraying silicone spray or 40 on your hair! Oil sprays won't last! I use motor oil in a pump can to lubricate every joint, linkage pivot, and shaft contact point and it lasts a year or more. There is no way to penetrate the binding points with grease. It may also be caused by hitting curbs with the step and even being able to lift the step by putting it down on the curb while getting into and out of the RV. Upon doing this, the motor has lowered the step onto the curb and stopped, which allows it to lock in In the event that you overload the RV or jostle it around, the RV will rock and push down on that little motor and gearbox, which could break something or just a few If you park away from the curb, it is easier for the steps to come out fully when exiting. Lubricate the wheels often as well, and these will last the coach's lifetime!.

The Jayco Greyhawk steps from AM motors are a perfect fit
5/5

It's an electric motor by AM 214 made for a Kwikee "double step" by Jayco Greyhawk 2G16, 1001, room 1001. After reading blogs, contacting Jayco, AM, and Kwikee, and calling three Camping Worlds in VA, I had to give up after spending hours trying to find a replacement. There was no problem with this motor. It only took three hex nuts to replace it! The most you should spend is 20 minutes. Because CW had no openings, it took months for the order to be ready so we ordered here and it was ready in two days. We accomplished it in no time with no difficulties. We are lawyers and nurses, not DIYers. Now the Kwikee double step stairs are operated by the door instead of making grinding noises as they closed or opened. Using this part is a great choice even if you are unable to install it. I did it in just a few minutes! In posting, I hoped to do others a favor by saving them the time of This motor is made by AM, and all the steps in most RVs are made by Kwikiee. There are 3 bolts visible in the image.

It worked like a charm! On a 1999 DP Winnebago Chieftain with a KWikee Series 32 step
5/5

When we began our last trip, we couldn't climb the stairs. As it sounded like it, up on the stairs, the motor and gearbox were toast (I gave it a pretty good pull and heard the gear meshing-- Sorry about that). In addition to taping on the motor housing, I also tried a few other ideas, but none of them worked. The stairs are still in good shape, but I almost ordered a new set. Researching and reading reviews led me to decide to simply replace the motor rather than the whole product. I just wanted to let you know There is a pin on the gearbox leading to the stairs, I did not remove it The stairs came out by themselves when we got home, so it was unnecessary to sweep them. a lucky break! The electric motor can only be removed with this pin removed if the stairs need to be moved out of the way to facilitate access. are fortunate enough to have sufficient access to the stairs, you can use your leg or something else to keep them stable when you remove the motor. Turn off the main power to the stairs and then unplug the small plug at the If no other tools are available, remove the three 10mm bolts gently by torqueing them (you can use pliers if no other tools are A motor dropped out of the electric circuit immediately. I find the gears to be very durable). To replace the gears on an old motor, pull up the assembly and remove the two spacing washers, clean and replace the gears on the new motor and reinstall if necessary Grain oil. I have no problem with it. A light torque is applied). Electric motors require a small plug to be plugged into. Once you have ensured the whole area (or at least the body parts) are clear of the possible stair movement areas, plug in the main power. The following warning has been issued As soon as you apply this power, the stairs will move to the commanded location. This is the first time I've done this repair, but I did watch some YouTube videos (I liked this the most Using a scale of 1 to 10, about 1 to 2 would be my rating of this job's difficulty. Neither the government nor the party were involved The occurrence. The entire time I had a beer, I cleaned the gear and washers, I inspected all the parts for damage, and I re-oiled everything The grease was heavy, and I don't think it took me 20 minutes to clean it. I have ordered a spare motor to keep in the RV since being without stairs was a real pain. There was a huge step without stairs, and the wife, kids, and dogs complained about it. I will never do it again!.

This is how I ordered the ACI 83094 Power Window Motor, which already had the gear and could hook up easily to our I could not use this without making modifications to my Kwikee Two Step gearbox
3/5

Because the electrical connection was different and the motor did not have the gear for it to work with the original gearbox, it could not be used. This is how I ordered the ACI 83094 Power Window Motor, which already had the gear and could hook up easily to our I would recommend this motor if it fits your gearbox if it doesn't, then you can rewire it. If your gearbox has different gearing, like mine does, then I would recommend the ACI 83094 Power Window Motor, which is significantly.
