Due to the fact that this seal is used on a large variety of vehicles (many GM vehicles, many Jeep vehicles, along with many others), there may be some components of some engines that would require such a seal. GM V-8 seal I bought from eBay was used on a 2003 GM V-8 vehicle and on a 1991 GM V-8 There were no requirements for this on this block and these applications We discarded the ring because it was broken. I like how it works. An included sleeve makes it easy to install. My vehicles with very high mileage have both been completely dry at the rear crank after installing this system.
