Questions & Answers

Does the sending unit come with the package?

There is a sending unit included in the package. For a list of included sizes, go to the autometer website.

Is there anyone who knows how big the gauge face is? Is 2 5/8'' the correct measurement?

Hello Glen, the body proper measurement on my white plastic body gauge is 2. 050", which is slightly more than 2-inches. 1/8"". The black mounting housing, into which the gauge body fits, has a bore of 2. 080" = 0. Clearance of 030" is required. The clear plastic lens is held in a black outside casing that measures 2 inches in diameter. 200". As a result, the dial face isn't two-dimensional. 5/8".

What kind of sensor should I use?

As far as I recall, the sensor was included with the gauge and had no separate part number. The sensor, on the other hand, was small enough to fit into the pressure test port on my E4OD transmission in my 1992 F-150. 150 Other gauges I looked at had sensors with a large diameter that wouldn't fit. It performs admirably.

Is it a one-wire or two-wire sending unit?

One wire

I bought this gauge for my 93 GMC K1500 to monitor the transmission temperature when towing a trailer, and it is of the highest quality and accuracy
5/5

I also put a plow on the truck this winter, and I'd like to monitor the temperature there as well, because I use a winterfront in the winter to keep the engine warm when the truck's block heater is turned on. Now, if it gets too hot, I can always open the winterfront to allow more air to flow in. br>br>So far, I've had no problems with the gauge. I installed it in the test port of my 4L60E, as recommended by the mechanic who performs transmission work for me (I'm a mechanic, but I don't work with transmissions much). In front of the AC condenser, I've got a Hayden 678 tranny cooler installed. I see temperatures of around 125-130 degrees Fahrenheit while driving down the highway at 60 miles per hour. 130 The city has a mix of stop-and-go traffic, with some short 50 mph stretches that have kept the speed below 150 mph. When towing a 20-foot loaded car hauler at around 8500 pounds gross weight with a mix of city and highway driving, the highest spike on a 1-mile long moderate hill at 60 mph has reached 210 mph if I really push it. Backing off and taking it easy on the way up the hill reveals a 190-foot elevation gain. 200 The gauge includes the following features: br>br>
- br>Gauge- -br>mountbr>-br>-br>-b Adapter-equipped senderbr>- So that people are aware, there is no wiring or connectors included. br>br>Bulb and socket with red and green covers (which I found dulled the light)br>br> You'll need some spade connectors and a length of 18-gauge wire, as well as an in-line switch. line fuse with a 5 amp rating br>br>I've had the gauge in the truck for a little over a month and haven't had any issues. However, you might want to think about getting a new mount. The one that comes with it only gives you one choice, which was sufficient for my truck. It's tucked into the pocket where the stock radio once resided. I've included a photo of the location.

BUYING IS A MISTAKE. Fogged. It was not possible to clear it. br>br>Autometer has been contacted. They offered to fix the problem by disassembling the lens and applying an anti-fog coating inside, but when I inquired, they said it was done the same way when the lens was built, so you can bet it will happen again. They want me to ship it on my own dime, which is terrible customer service. They build a defective gauge, and I have to ship it under warranty? Nope. br>br>Do not hand over any money to Autometer. They don't give a damn about anything. This is something you should not buy. My "cheap" glowshift gauges have never failed me in years. These are available for purchase.

For 97-year-olds, this is ideal

Jeep cherokee xj, model year 2001. SEALIGHT 194 8SMD LED hole saw with 2" hole The transmission threads will ground because the kit only includes a single wire sending unit. If you're not using a trans port and instead using rubber lines with a T, make sure there's a ground wire between the sender and the brass fitting you're using. The ground of the sending unit is connected to either the chassis or the battery negative, and the wire on the top (positive) of the sending unit is connected to the gauge's (S) terminal. The (I) terminal was connected to 12v positive at the cigarette outlet, and the ground was connected to the cigarette outlet's ground. For the light source, we used a transmission shift bezel light. I replaced the stock bulb with a SEALIGHT 6000k LED, which is brighter and cooler. To get a perfect fit for the gauge itself, I used a 2" hole saw and some sand paper. br>br>I used an IR gun to check the sending unit's accuracy, and it appears to be spot on. I used a glowshift 3/8" fuel pressure t fitting and a female to male npt 1/8" brass extender to connect the sending unit. Use 3/8" transmission line and 3/8" brass barb splicers to connect it to the hot line (output) before the radiator. So far, everything has gone well.

The light from an incandescent bulb is insufficient
4/5

LED light bulbs should be used instead. This gauge was purchased to keep track of the transmission temperature as I hauled up steep mountain passes. I also needed to purchase the Autometer Short Style Sending Unit (part 2259) as well as the Autometer Metric Adapter M10-A. For it to work on my 2007 Nissan Frontier, I needed a 0 to 1/8" NPT (part 2265). Before purchasing, check to see if the supplied sending unit will fit in the transmission test port on other makes and models. br>br>Use teflon tape and don't overtorque when installing the sending unit! br>br>The incandescent bulb that comes with it is quite dim, and it only comes with red or green bulb caps. I bought a mini wedge LED bulb (type t3 bulb: 1/4) at superbrightleds. com; they're relatively inexpensive, last longer, don't heat up, and are much easier to read. To put them to the test, I bought red, cool white, and amber. The most visible color at night was cool white. br>br>Owners of frontier properties - A few pointers. Do not use the crush washer that comes with the kit - instead, get rid of the rubber o- use the ring from the original factory transmission test port bolt on the new sender For the ground and 12V illumination, I was able to tap into the brake harness beneath the dash. Switched power was obtained by tapping the upper 12V power port/cigarette lighter. br>br>4 stars for not including an LED and forcing me to buy so many extra parts just to get the gauge to work on my Nissan. Aside from that, it's a standard Autometer. This is an excellent gauge and an excellent purchase. The combination of quality and price is unbeatable.

I would not recommend this product
3/5

This was received in good shape. It took me a long time to finally install it. br>br>During installation, I noticed that the bulb socket was rubbing against the ground terminal, making it difficult to remove and replace the bulb. It isn't a major issue, but it is inconvenient. br>br>Installation went smoothly, and the system performed admirably for the first week. The unit began to break down after a week. The needle would jump 20 times up and down. The temperature has dropped to 40 degrees. The needle would sweep all the way to the right as I wiggled everything in the back. The temperature would occasionally read 210, but if I moved the wires slightly, it would drop to 180. The connections and wiring are fine; the problem is with the terminal or internal connection. br>br>Amazon says I can't return it because it's past due. br>br>I'm stuck with this nonsense. br>br>For as long as I've had cars, I've been buying autometer gauges. They were used in all of my race cars. Since then, it appears that the quality has deteriorated dramatically. br>br>I would not advise using this gauge.
