My 2001 Polaris Sportsman 400 4x4 worked great with this belt. I was experiencing a clunking noise on idle with my worn belt. On my old belt, I noticed where rats had chewed on it. The rest of this story will follow. Initially, I was concerned that the new belt was not the right part because it had teeth on both sides of the belt while the old belt was smooth on the top. However, the new belt worked great and I've had no problems since using it. You may want to consider cutting a piece of hardware cloth to cover the opening of the breather on the clutch cover after reinstalling it. For the purpose of preventing rats from entering the enclosure, I did this.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm assuming that since nobody has mentioned "my problem", it's just an issue with my quad and not with the belt itself. It was my second time installing this belt, and I neglected to check my clutch clearance when I did it. In the end, the assembly did not idle either in forward or reverse because "duhh" the belt was too thick for the clutch In the end, it's not necessarily my belt that's the problem, but rather the clutch, and shims will fix the issue. It would be nice if the damn shims arrived If you're used to a worn/old belt, the TL/DR belt provides awesome torque, but you also need to check your primary clutch clearance (should be . . You will need to remove the cover to the height of 20") before reattaching the I just updated The clearance problems I was experiencing with my clutch were fixed by adding shims. I'm happy to report that the belt works properly Due to the plastic melting in 13 years, I probably had less clearance than I should have after 13 years. It looks like this belt is the right width and my clutch has probably just been worn out! Many thanks for taking the time to read!.
My Polaris Sportsman 500 was damaged, so I called the dealer first. They wanted $112 for a belt. 'I called an auto parts store and they would have it in 3 days but it would be half the price. On Amazon they had this Gates belt (it's great) for $38 and within one day it would arrive. A package came in last night and I was waiting for it with the cover off. The process of putting it on took about three seconds. Afterwards, I put the cover back on and tried it again. This is the first time in two years that it works well. Putting it all back together again. It took about 15 minutes to complete the job. It is a belt I highly recommend.
As of now, everything seems to be going well. The drive belt on the sportsman 400 has to be replaced. It fits a lot more polaros models. Just a little x-ray and it should be good to go Gates website refers to it as a replacement part for polaris atvs. Break-in time was easy and the product seems better built and has helped my atv a lot more as compared to the stock replacement parts. Having purchased the stock Polaris brand belts for this machine a few times, I can attest that this is one product you need to stay away from the dealership.
My belt seemed to be working fine until after I put a few hundred miles on my Polaris ATV the clutch started chirping when I This noise could possibly be caused by a dirty belt, but on the other ATV I have with a Polaris belt, the noise does not occur.
So far, it has performed as expected, and I am in the process of breaking it in. Polaris OEM belts are too expensive, so this is a great alternative to them. If I were to order again, I would without a doubt.
Replacement part for Polaris Trail Boss 325 model 2001.
It whined quite often when I was slowing down going up or down hills after about an hour on this belt. I changed the belt to an old Polaris belt, and now the whining is gone. This poor quality belt needs a refund since I would dearly like it returned.
