Because the pin hole is so small, the lock shackle must be equally so. Perhaps something like one of those airport luggage locks. I'm worried that the shackle will wear out from the pressure, and that a small lock won't be able to withstand the weather and road conditions. Rubber seals are used to keep water and dust out of hitch pins with locks designed for this purpose.

Because it's for a 3-year-old, it's a little longer than the standard size. receiver for a hitch inch The pin is well-fitting, and the clip secures it in place.
I didn't realize it was 5 inches long and much longer than standard Cat II hitch pins. It is of excellent quality. It was just a little too long for me.
Because my F250 had a 3 inch pocket, I needed the extra length. I needed a sleeve for a 2 inch ball hitch, so I ordered one.

For the same item, it is less expensive than auto parts, but it is difficult to locate in stores. Fits a 3" receiver hitch on a Ford Super Duty truck. This clip is preferable to the standard hitch pin.
It's convenient to have a grooved connection. It accomplishes the task at hand. Curt is a strong name that I believe will stand the test of time. Instead of a hole for the clip, I prefer a groove.
