I made two modifications to the ROLA 59504 V- The overall length of the Tex Rooftop Cargo Basket is 92 inches. Which is perfect for my factory roof rack on my 2000 Z71 suburban. For extra support, I added four extra mounting hardware kits (59506) and two extra factory crossbars from a salvage yard; I don't think additional crossbars or hardware mounts are necessary when adding one extension, but they are definitely required when adding two extensions.
The distance between the opening and the top of the rack is approximately 67. 5 inches. However, this does not represent the rack's total length. The rack is 4 or 5 inches longer on each end because it is angled downward. I hope this is clear.
I'm not sure how big you'll need it, but it should be roughly the same size as the rack. Personally, I own a spider net. For my purposes, it's adequate.
It doesn't work like that at all. Whether or not to use an extra crossbar (with clamps) is entirely up to you. I had to install another cross bar (along with two clamps to fasten to the crossbar) after adding two of these extensions. When you only use one extension, you can usually get by without an extra crossbar. To find out how much weight it can support (i.e., how much weight it can support), consult your manual. 150 pounds is acceptable if the load is distributed evenly across the basket's length.

My Toyota 4Runner SR5 was manufactured in 2010. This rack has a nice look and is reasonably priced. After I got the right hardware, the installation wasn't too difficult. I plasti- YOTA stripes on the front were dipped and applied with vinyl. A GOBI rack is much more expensive. I intend to haul some kayaks in the near future, which led to this purchase.
This particular rack appeals to me. For a basket, it has a low profile and appears to be durable. However, there have been reports of rust issues on the internet, and the rack comes in two pieces. You might get the newer version, which has rubber sleeves for the connecting tubes and rubber washers for the screws, if you're lucky. That is helpful, but there is still more that you can do. A can of Rustoeum truck bed liner spray would be my first purchase. It's the same material that's used on the basket's exterior. Spray it inside the tubes to coat them, which will help prevent rusting from the inside out, which is the most common cause of rust in these baskets. Then, using black outdoor silicone caulk similar to what you'd use on windows, etc. , fill in the gaps. to seal all screw holes (including the wind deflector) as well as the four tube seams Examine all welds for any holes or openings that could allow water to enter. It's a quick fix that will save you a lot of time and aggravation in the long run.
If you have a 4runner, make sure to get the low-profile mounts because they look much better.
I purchased the extension from Amazon. However, because the rest of the roof rack system was not readily available on Amazon, I purchased it from a different vendor. I received both items at the same time, and after reading about some people's rusty water issues, I went ahead and primed the insides of each of the hollow roof rack tubes. I didn't want to have to worry about rust stains on my Jeep's roof because I live in the Pacific Northwest, where it rains a lot. An Eastwood black internal frame coating can was used to accomplish this. A two-year guarantee is included with the eastwood coating. Inside the roof rack tubes, you'll find a 3' plastic tube. I let the rack dry for 48 hours after coating it, then assembled it according to the directions. One thing I would suggest is that you coat the rubber sleeves that cover the tube joints with vaseline. Otherwise, moving them around while putting the rack together will be a nightmare.
It looks fantastic and performs admirably. br>This thing is HUGEbr>I ended up getting the extension for more space, though I think $99 is a little excessive for what it is. With the extension, the total length is 72 inches. br>On installation, I followed the advice of a few other reviewers. br>It was a nightmare to get the stickers off. Make sure you have a decal remover on hand; decals are designed to be difficult to remove because they shred and tear into tiny pieces. br>I used grease on the tubing to slide the sleeves on and it worked perfectly, making things a lot easier. When putting it together, use flex seal caulk in/on and around each of the screw holes and gaps to help waterproof it. I'm interested to see how it fared in the Florida heat, humidity, and rain. br>Mounting was fairly simple; having an extra pair of hands on hand is definitely beneficial. br>br>You already know you don't want a small roof basket, so go ahead and purchase one.
BIG. I've had the rack for about three years now. I had to soft hammer the pieces apart with some WD40 at the joints to separate them so I could add this piece. br>br>After separating, I noticed rusty water in the rack, but the inside damage was minor; just make sure to use the rack's sealing sleeves. I should have sealed the seams and drilled the holes for the windscreen with silicon sealant, but oh well. br>br>A soft hammer was also needed to slide the pieces together when adding the extension. It's not difficult. The rack is fairly heavy after all of the pieces have been assembled, but it is incredibly durable. With this rack extension, I recommend using solid or strong crossbars, as the weight of the rack plus the gear on top of it can easily overwork stock plastic crossbars on most vehicles. br>br>There will be wind noise, so expect it when purchasing a roof basket of this size. Try to position the front of the rack in front of your windshield to reduce noise, but this is easier said than done considering that if you have a rear hatch, you must allow enough room for the hatch to open all the way without hitting the back of the rack.
It's time to unwrap it. It looked great, but the pieces didn't always fit together well. On one hand, everything seemed to be in order. The other had been manufactured incorrectly and would not fit together flush. The rubber sleeves are useless because they are too small. Another indication of how cheaply and poorly this rack is designed is the tiny self tapping screws that must be screwed into the metal of the rack to hold the sections together. br>br>THE CRUMPING MECHANISM IS THE WORST FEATURE. It's a waste of time. In fact, one of the clamps literally fell apart and was lost WITHOUT A LOAD IN THE RACK after I installed it myself (so I knew how tight everything was when I finished). Do not waste your money on this product because it is badly designed and executed.
Rooftop Cargo Basket in Texan Texan Texan Texan Texan Tex I purchased the Rooftop Basket about a year ago, and it fit perfectly on my Mazda 5. I purchased the extension because I now own an LX470. I was able to disassemble the original basket. Without too much trouble, you can add the extension. There are some thick rubber sleeves that cover the screw holes and go over the places where the basket pieces join. The hardest part is getting them on, but it's not too difficult; additionally, adding the extension makes the basket a little unwieldy, so you'll probably need a second pair of hands or a large workbench. It's a little tight for the Lexus, but it gets the job done and is very sturdy.
