As an added bonus, the rubber bushings are slightly tapered to fit the curve near the shell's edge. Good hardware, as well as a well-finished power coating. I covered the bars with PVC tubing to make loading easier and prevent scratches. Also, the item arrived promptly. If you need a drill, this is the one to get. via a rack for mounting.
For this price, I was afraid I'd get a shoddy bar set, but they're actually quite nice. When installed according to the manufacturer's instructions, there are no leaks. The bar is SO wide that no bungee hooks or strap hooks can be used on it. I had a nice square steel rack on my van that was only about an inch square at the time, so I ran a tie down strap from the front of the ladder to the back for the largest one and used bungees to attach the smaller ones on top. Because these bars are about 2" round, there is no strap hook that will fit around them, limiting your tie down options to the hooks on the side. Also, keep in mind that the design prevents you from tying down your vehicle across its entire width. It would be nice if they had a top bar design that allowed you to easily grab another 6" from each side, but the bars end at the attachment points. As a result, you should expect a much narrower rack than usual. I once made one out of 3/4" electrical conduit that could easily support a piece of plywood and was wide enough. This could not be stretched to 4'. I've worked around these issues and now have a fantastic rack that holds everything I require. I would definitely recommend it to a homeowner who has a topper and is starting a small business.
Mounted on a 2005 Dodge Caravanbr>PROS It's sturdybr>Adjustablebr>Curved rubber foot platedbr>CONSbr>Very noisybr>br>I initially thought it was something rubbing on my tire, but the thin pieces of flat steel at the ends have a vibration to them that you can hear through a van van cieling. I'm going to try wrapping it in some foam or rubber to see if that.
I'm not sure why they didn't just provide 8 mounting pads that were already predrilled or punched. You'll receive four wedge-shaped hard rubber exterior pads and four soft rubber interior backing pads with an adhesive side that won't stick, and no holes punched or drilled in the interior pads. You can't put holes in them without a punch kit, and you can't just stick them in place and hope they stay while you drill your holes. Don't try to drill the holes through with the rack mounts in place because the flanges aren't long enough to clear the chuck on a drill. Drill straight through the holes you've marked. The wedge-shaped rubber is unlikely to last and appears clumsy. It would have been preferable to use different sized rubber fender washers. I wouldn't want them on my van once they're installed because they're too rugged. I used a fiberglass truck cap to display them.
I'll be transporting kyacks with it. This product has exceeded my expectations!.
This thing will, without a doubt, support the weight it is rated for. Tie- Bonus points - they're simple to use and versatile, and down points - they're simple to use and versatile. It appears to be quite impressive! As a contractor, I can attest to the fact that these will last for many years.
At such a low price, I had no idea what to expect. Because the majority of the reviews were positive, I decided to purchase a set. I liked the product's construction and weight, and the fact that the top side had tapered gaskets was a nice touch. An A was used to install these. a Dodge Dakota pickup with a hat mounted on it I was able to use measurements from the rear rack to square up the forward rack once I determined the best location to mount it. The side to side alignment was a little more difficult, but keeping a straight edge along the cap to measure off of was crucial to getting them evenly aligned on top. I haven't yet hauled anything on the rack, but I am confident that they will withstand their rated load.
The delivery was prompt. It was easy to set up. The item's durability is in question. Scratches are easily visible on the "powder coating. " The metal has a very thin gauge to it. To accommodate a curved roof, the rubber gaskets are beveled. When your roof isn't at the same angle, this can be a problem. The first rain caused my roof to leak. I'm going to try and seal it up around the roof top's feet. There aren't a lot of options when it comes to aftermarket roof top ladder racks. As a result, this will suffice. All I have to do now is hope that the leaks can be repaired.
